I am looking for a laptop and came accross this .
Sony - VAIO Laptop with Intel Centrino Duo - Indigo - VGN-CR220E/L
Can anyone please tell me whether its a good buy or not.

Thats a pretty good deal assuming you'll be buying that model from that site and will get the specified warranty.
If however, you plan to procure from within India, I'd strongly suggest you consider Lenovo and DELL XPS range. Even though Vaio's are great-lookers, they are grossly overpriced (so true here in India) for the utility they provide.
My personal pick (within the 60K mark): Lenovo Y410 😉
Hello people...
Please help me with the following.
I have planned to gift a laptop to my sis on New Years.
I want to go for Vista....against many suggestions and few recommendations 😞
I have configured a Dell as below:
Inspiron T1420
Core2Duo (T5xxx)-1.66Ghz-667Mhz bus speed
Vista Home Premium with aero experience
2gbRAM@667Mhz
160 gb HDD
9 cell battery, 2mb integrated webcam, bla bla...
Total: 43,xxx
Now, I have the following confusion: I want to offer a better visual experience (read Vista), though she is far from gaming or high end video jobs. Hence, I've opted for Core2 + 2 GB Ram (This i was told would be good for running Vista). Also, given this, should I go for a dedicated Video Card (the nVidia option in the config choice, that would push my bill up by 3.5k or so) or will the default Intel X3100 accelarator be good enough to let Vista Aero run?
Kindly reply. I'm getting late :(
in anticipation,
Vaibhav

When you are spending so much, I think its good to pay that little extra and make it the best. Its worth it. Also, you never know Vista Aero updates may demand upgrade your video card which may not be feasible to replace on a laptop.
I wanted to take opinion of the puys present here on the laptop which i found very suitable.

Hey, as the academic season for the b schools will start soon, I was planning to zero in on a laptop. Friends, I have no knowledge about them. I bought a Compaq laptop V3424TU for my home in aug-07. It was good, and as it is, no heavy duty use there. Only basic surfing and listening to music. It had 160 gb HDD and 1 gb RAM. It was intel dual core 1.73 GHz (or is it MHz?). Cost me about 44k.
Now, am wondering what should i go for my mba? I was seeing Dell Vostro 1400 and Dell Inspiron 1420. With taxes and octoi etc, the amount was coming to 44k.
1. Should one go for vista? I mean, the compaq i bought does have vista, but ultimately, its running on a pirated wondows 98. And, what advantage does vista have?
2. Further, do i need an anti virus? Or will there be enough engineers and tech ppl in my mba class to take care of virus?
3. Which processor should i go for? will 1.6 GHz core 2 duo be fine? Or should i go higher?
4. The brands I should choose from, considering the paltop wud b purchased in India.
Will surely appreciate your feed-back.
Thanks.

hai can i reply...

1.VISTA is cool for a visual treat as in the graphics & all r grt...same if u compare XP & Windows 98.. but VISTA will work properly with 1Gb RAM..
thts all i know....correct me if i'm wrong
2.As i hv known some of the b-school uninstall ur anti-virus & install their own..thts wat will do in the 1 i'm joining...so a 30 day trial pack is enuf..
& hai what u do 2 ur home PC...uu can get the same antivirus for the laptop..
3.MY personal take...this speed hardly matters for a b-schooler.. we aint using any realtime application...but yes had to be a std one.....u can choose the 2Ghx one but then if we can save some grand by opting the 1.66Ghz then y not!!
4.Depends on ur personal choice...HP & Sony is good but overpriced in India..as u know i'm opting for DELL coz of the feedback i got from seniors abt it being hardy & reliable & also its after-sales is awesome.
Just to Add...hai as it's specified in the dell site itself...Vostro is a good for business use & all... so i dint opt for Vostro..& i dont think there's a 14' option with a webcam
hope it helps!!
See my comments in blue.
1. Should one go for vista? I mean, the compaq i bought does have vista, but ultimately, its running on a pirated wondows 98. And, what advantage does vista have? Of course, u should go for Vista. BTW, now-a-days, u dont get laptops with XP. So Vista will be there...... Vista is any day better than a Win 98.......
2. Further, do i need an anti virus? Or will there be enough engineers and tech ppl in my mba class to take care of virus? Install a anti-virus on ur laptop. U have AVG in free version, or Quick heal or Norton for paid versions. I suggest go for the free versions.......
3. Which processor should i go for? will 1.6 GHz core 2 duo be fine? Or should i go higher? Should be fine......
4. The brands I should choose from, considering the paltop wud b purchased in India. My ranking (Sony, Lenovo, HP, DELL) But do consider the prices also.......
hi puys,
for people with 55-60 k budget.
take either dell or hp. dell is better as it lets you customize and the laptops are quite sturdy. hp is better on services and staff.
rest for both is quite comparable.

250gd hdd,3gb ram, bluetooth headset,2mp camera, integrated video graphix card(with 3gb ram u dont mind that anyday..integrated means grpahix card will use memory frm ram...) vista, intel core 2 dup 2.1 ghz...its a dell xps 1330...just one -ve point its a 13inch wala lappy..but at its price easily compromised...its performance os real gud...as i made out with some users and expert reviews and design also pretty cool...dell also offers very gud bulk deals and aftr ales service is also gud..in any other brand if u go 4 the same config wud cost u much higher..like toshiba,hp,lenovo and the likes...
officially alienware isnt available in india...but does anyone know any way that i can get a alienware laptop in india?

To add to it, HP beats Dell hands down on looks.. The latest HP series look amazingly stunning... Further most of the HP notebooks come with integrated mic/cam which is a great addition to a laptop.
Also from my experience, I know Dell's laptops get hot very fast. Mine has a dual fan and all that but I cant keep it on my lap for more than 20-30 mins..
hey guys,
Very confused about the laptops - which to buy, what config and from where to buy...
Earlier I was very enthu abt Sony Vaio series but then one visit to Croma to check prices have put all enthu down.. dnt wann spend that much.. was looking to spend around 50K (+5 max if getting extremely good deal) on a laptop...
i knw Dell is the cheapest.. but i was wondering how is the performance??? Is it any better than other brands like Compaq or HP?
Is Something like Sony (not Vaio) worth investing?? any tangible benefits visible to over others?
For now i was only thinking of HP and Compaq... any other brands like Acer or Toshiba or IBM better than conventional HP and Compaq?
Since I have got admit to National University of Singapore, will it be better that i buy laptops from Singapore (for warranty purposes)... any difference in configs and prices?
Your help will be much appreacited thru "Thanks" button ;)

hey puys..
buying a laptop can be a confusing thing...hav seen various bt cant made a decision which one to buy..sony vaio has come up with a good model in the range of 55-56k..looks wise i think hp is the best bt i m nt sure abt its performance..
as far as dell is concerned i m nt sure abt the after services provided by dell..
can somebody suggest me a good laptop in the range of 55-60k..also can somebody tell me hws the performance of the sony vaio as a whole...
thanks....
Have you ppl gone through the LAPTOP buying guide on Pg...
i think it provides a wonderful insight into the purpose..
Is any bulk deal for PG is being considered?? I mean Something like catching a big stockist or dealer who deals in all these brands and from whom we can make a real big deal for all PUYS... might be that we can further lower the bulk deal price??
And if the dealer or distributor has offices in major metros then the delivery and pickup would be easy for PUYs of the metro and near by area...
P.S: just a thought... I think there are gbusiness entities who have pan India offices like computer world and many more... so groups of puys from metros can get the pricing info and PG HQ ppl can negotiate a cool deal...
well me going for dell. the models are awesome. i am going for a xps 1530 laptop.
