Guys,
Need some advice on laptops...Wanna buy one asap...
Have a few features in mind, But my first question is - Is Acer a good enough brand for laptops to go for..?? I know this sounds like a weird query , But for the same price Acer offers a far better configuration than...say, Dell or HP
Is there any particular reason that Acer comes at a lower cost which I ough to know in case I seriously pursue buying an Acer laptop...??
& yes...Aspire 5720 with 160 GB HDD, 1 GB Ram , 256 MB VRAM , Core 2 Duo 1.83 Ghz with 15.4' screen at 3900 dirhams (around 43-44k INR) seems to be a good deal to me...
I am not short of cash nor am I unwilling to spend more on a good laptop but dont wanna spend more when something seemingly similar/better is available at a better price (In this case, the Acer laptops)
Opinions & advice please...
Thanks in advance...

Why dont u try for dell inspiron 1420? I found that configuration is quite good and price is reasonable ....
Why u wanna go for 2*512 when u can get 1*1gb??
Regarding win vista, it doesnt support lots of application like nokia pc suite,etc... which support windows xp... I guess it would take some time for vista to support these software... but windows vista is good for media and games!
I prefer dual boot of win xp and vista!
I decided to buy dell inspiron 1420... here is the link

Hi laptop puys,
I need a suggestion from the ppl who had experience in laptop. I dont understand why all ppl are going for high end configuration unless one needed. For a B-School guy, he needed his laptop only for presentation and net surfing purposes. For that its enough if one goes with the basic model with Acer that cost only 25k.
We all know that laptop price drops every year by 15%. So, u could buy a same laptop with same configuration atleast 13k lesser after 2 years.
I am not budget concern, I was planned to go for dell inspiron 1420 which cost me around 50k. But after taking an advice from my friend I concluded to buy a acer laptop which cost only 25k.
What do u say puys? Is my decision is good or should I rethink on this?
One more doubt... which one cost higher 14" or 15.4" screen?

Most B-schoolers (& in indeed..this also describes all laptop users in general, especially the young male fraternity
) dont use a laptop at B-school just for the uses that B-schools demand...There are other uses that are also important, to some , the "other" uses far outweigh the B-school related purposes, like making presentations blah-blah...
An average B-schooler also does like to take time out to play games (Which may, be the latest ones, requiring high-end graphics & more RAM), watch movies of the conventional kind as well as of the..lets call it the "other" variety
(Either of which would be better viewed on a 15.4" or 17" screen than a 14.1" screen )Some B-schoolers like to go in for a laptop which wouldnt become obsolete too soon...so that they dont need to think of a replacement as soon as they get outta B-school...& to such users going in for a higher-end PC which does not become obsolete too soon, makes a lotta sense....
To those that need to do video-chat with whomsoever may concern them, may also like to go with a laptop that comes with an integrated webcam so that they dont have to go hunting for a webcam separately
& as for specifically comparing Acer against the likes of Dell,HP,Toshiba (Sony is of course to be treated a distinct genre
Hope this answers your queries...Of course each user has his own niche set of preferences & priorities....& if the above dont match what you expect from your laptop....you might as well go ahead with your decision..!!!
Cheers..!!
i think the acer laptop gives all the above features within 40K but as far as the other usefulness of laptop r concerned i guess in a good b-school n after tht in a busy worklife u wont get enuf time to do all this. moreover its important to do a Video -chat with ur family n friends n the acer one is well capable of providing a better quality.
also after ur 2-yrs of b-school life n then as an executive u'll really get bored at the sight of an laptop. then i guess after working for a year or 2 u can really go for a high end Laptop but for a b-school purpose i think the acer ones fits the bill..
any other views?? always welcome..

Yes, I completely agree with your opinion. I enquired personally to the acer user who is using his laptop for 1.5 yrs, he said that he didnt face any problem with his lappy.
