what do u people advise for the config as well as for the price.......
I am sure u can get a better configuration for the money!!! AMD or Intel - i dont care, especially for a single Chip machines!!! 512 MB cache bugs me :( so does 512 MB of RAM
If u r ready to shell around US$1100, check the US Dell sites and HP sites. You should be able to get lot better Lappies at this price.

still confused.........
Check the Dell india site (i dont have the url). I saw thew providing rebates on pricing upto 7k on the 6400 model. i guess u know the 6400 config. with the rebate et al - u cud get a decent config for around 50K i guess. not sure.
well i have seen many of the people in this thread quoting configurations with intel dual core processors.............AFAIK the dual core thing is gud only for desktops and not the laptops as they generate too much heat........i guess pentium M would be providing the same speed and performance most of the times without the chances of damage

dude.. the duo core does not generate as much heat as you think it does. this has been discussed on this thread earlier, and there is a detailed performance review of the dual core processor (on a third party site, for which the link was posted on this thread). also, people who have already got the hp5118 have confirmed that the levels of heat generation are as would be in any normal laptop. so, rest all your doubts..
as far as i remember reading on that external site, the duo core does slow down a few applications like photoshop. but when you have two or more processor-heavy applications running simultaneously, the duo core's performance is unbeatable.

And I thot it increases the performance in CPU intensive applications like Photoshop..
Are u sure dude..
In my view, the real application n usefulness of core duo processoors is seen only in applications like Photoshop..
If you see here, the Pentium M 780 outperforms the Duo (for Adobe photoshop). I had read this review a long long time back. So, all I could remember (while writing the earlier post) is that for Photoshop, the Pentium M is better than the Duo. But on re-visiting the page today, found that the clock speed of M780 is more than that of the Duo being used for the tests. At the same clock speeds, the Duo is better.
Basically, it all depends on the software.. If the software is optimised for multi-threading, then Duo will have the edge.

A Request from my side: Please don't contact DELL for this deal. As evident from the ongoing HP deal, too many cooks spoil the brot.
If you wish to check out the system, you can do so at www.dell.co.in
If you are interested, just send me a PM so that we can get a feel of the numbers to start bargaining.

I wud be very much interested in this deal. And I am sure many more also will be.
But I would still say lets wait for a couple of days to get to know what happens with the HP Deal. That would make us more confindent about the numbers for this one.

Boss. The quote that I have recieved from DELL for this laptop is 58,068.40
The base price is 55,835 + 4% VAT (Rs. 2233.40) = 58,068.40
I am unable to open the link that you have sent. just go to this link:
if you want, i can send you the pdf i recieved from DELL this morning.
I customised the system at the DELL site right now. A PDF (dell - price.pdf) is attached with this post. It shows the price as 55,308 (excluding taxes). So, including 4% taxes, it should come to about 57,520. This also means that we should be able to bargain below 56K for the bulk deal.
Also attached is a file: kunal.pdf This file is the quote sent to me by DELL this morning. I had requested for this quote about 4 days back. Guess that the prices have changed a little after that.
guys, if any of you see a price like this, please request for a quote immediately. Also, please inform about it on this thread. Once they send a quote to any of us for that price, we can all get it at the same price.
