@munna_bhai_MBA: I'm really sorry yaar if my posts sounded harsh... lagta hai ki DELL ki website mein kuch gadbad hai..

As for the discounts thing, the person with whom I am talking to says that she can discuss the discount thing with her managers only once I have the numbers... That's why I have sent PM's to everyone who may be interested and also posted it here on this forum (for all of whom I might have missed).

P.S. : I again request everyone not to contact DELL for this laptop deal. If someone is really eager to handle the deal, I'll be glad to re-direct the sales rep (with whom I'm dealing currently) to him/her. But sending in fresh requests asking for bulk deals will only worsen the matter i feel (like it did in HP)

Dude, the last date is today! And the 1 year warranty won't be valid in india. Third point: 17" - it's not exactly portable.. will be quite heavy.

Hii

I was thinking of buying the same machine config...with another addon...XP Professional instead of Home Edition.. @56,887+tax for the entire thing...

The config looks pretty good for non-gamers.Weighing close to 3 kgs, looks pretty portable to me too.

yeah dude it's true..And I believe that's not just for me but for anyone interested... Attaching the Dell quotation with this...

The config @80GB HDD, 1GB RAM, XP Professional, 8X DVD+/-RW is available at 56,887+taxes.
Add another 1,600 for a Truelife@14'' with widescreen...amounting to 58,467+taxes.

@kunal: What's the scene dude - heard from enough people interested in this deal?

Nipun

P.S. Anyone has any idea how good this Truelife Technology is? Some dealer scared me by talking about how it would actually make the lappy unfavourable for prolonged use...

hi nipun,

day before yesterday, i had sent a message to everyone who had expressed their interest in the 640m deal earlier. i guess you weren't there on the list yaar. anyways, update on that deal is that it has been called off due to lack of interested people. i have copied below the text of the PM that i sent to all the people on my list:

==== Actual text of the Message Sent follows ====

Hi,

Yesterday, I had sent a PM to everyone who was interested in the HP5118 as to whether they would be interested in the DELL 640M config (in case the HP deal did not work out). I really thank you for your positive response.

The bad news, however, is that I did not recieve the same response as yours from a lot of people. Until now, I have got the positive response only from 10 people. And, from that, I don't know how many would really end up buying the laptop. So, it jst doesn't make sense to talk to the DELL people. I was hoping to get back to them with at least 25 people so as to be sure that at least 10 people would end up buying that beauty.

Anyways, I am now undecided on the laptop that I would opt for. I'll either get the DELL 640M config that i mentioned earlier or get the HP5118tx in the PG deal (for 63k).

Looking at the poor response, I have not started the negotiations with DELL. In case you are interested in carrying it forward, please PM me and I'll let you know the details.

Or, if you are not going in for the HP5118 PG deal, then you could check out this thread for the DELL Inspiron 6400.

http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/your-i...on-6400-a.html

(Disclaimer: Please don't take it that I'm recommending the DELL Inspiron 6400 in lieu of the 640M. Personally, I'm not going in for that 6400 deal)

Once again, I profusely thank you for your support. And I'm sorry if this whole thing has caused any inconvenience to you. Hope to hear more from you in the future.

Regards,
Kunal.
DELL INSPIRON 640M DEAL (Amazing deal at amazing rate...read on!)

I am back!

Yes, I am back with a great great news which, I am sure, you would welcome whole heartedly.

For last few dayz i was busy figuring out between DELL Inspiro 640M and HP Pavillion 1615. HP was offering a great price deal whereas DELL was giving a dream configuration and today I finally negotiated a great deal with DELL.

HP guy spoke to me in the morning and said he'd revert back and hasn't come back to me and hence the final price he gave stands still at Rs. 51,800 all paid except octroi.

DELL senior manager marketing called up from banglore and spoke to me today morning and has given me not only discounted offer but also much more technically upgraded customised model.

Let me give you the comparative analysis between HP Pavillion 1615 and DELL Inspiron 640M before I exhort you to make a decision :

1. Processor : HP gives Centrino, Dell gives Duo core centrino. (Consume less power and reduce the batter consumption....processor designed for the future.)

2. FSB mother board : HP gives 400MHz, Dell give 667 Mhz (much much faster, muz say)

3. Hard Disk : HP gives 80GB normal hard disk , Dell gives 80GB SATA hard disk

4. RAM : HP gives 512MB, Dell gives 512MB

5. Battery : HP gives 6 cell Lithium Ion battery, Dell gives 9 cell lithium ion battery. (extra 1.5 hrs life without power...amazing!)

6. Carry bag : HP gives normal bag, Dell gives a large backpack (best for the students!)

7. Drive : HP gives Combo drive + CD RW + DVD RW, Dell gives Combo drive + CD RW. (only disadvantage of Dell).

8. Price : HP agreed for 51,800 all paid except octroi , Dell agreed for 50,000 (min 25 no.) If you open the website and customise for the same configureation, the pirce (inclusive of tax and delivery ) comes to ~56,000 INR. So, I guess its an amazing deal at an amazing rate...

After a marathon discussion of 25 min with the senior person from Dell, I have learnt few things:

1. Dell no more sends the m/c to singapore or malesiya or Singapore and they have developed the in-house facility of servicing the Dell m/c. Sending the m/c abroad has become the thing of the past. He assured the onsite support within 24 hrs and thass really great.

2. They can issue the seperate quotations for those who want to avail a bank loan and want to submit the quotation to the respective banks.

3. I have agreed for the delivery in Delhi or some other place without octroi and if one insists on the delivery at his/her place would pay the octroi above this. (same was the case with HP as well)

Having considered both the models seriously and looking at the every technical aspect closely, and, also having discussed with many people, I think Dell Inspiron 640M fits our needs the best.

So, I ask all of you guys who registered their vote for HP Pavillion 1615 to consider this and confim your choice since we gotta finalise it within a week's time or the deal stands get cancelled. I have a 3 dayz time to tell him if I have 25 numbers.

Give me the numbers, and, I'd give you the best lappy!

http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/your-i...tml#post500771 (DELL Inspiron 640M - The PG Bulk Deal)

hello everyone,
i m manindra majumdar, studying BBA at ISB (Kolkata).

I am planning to buy a laptop. My budget is 40,000 max. I have short-listed 2 notebooks. They are:
1. Compaq Presario V2623TS - Rs.38000 (Celeron M 1.5Ghz, 256 MB RAM, 60 GB HDD, DVD Writer, 14" Wide XGA)
2. Lenovo 3000 series c100 0761D7A - Rs.37500 (Celeron M 1.5Ghz, 256 MB RAM, 40 GB HDD, Combo Drive, 15" Wide XGA).

With the Compaq Presario, I get more features, i.e., DVD Witer & 60 GB HDD. But I don't like the screeen which has a mirror finish & the build is not so good. On the other hand, Lenovo's build is great, it has a phenomenal keyboard & screen, but less features.

I would like to know your views on which one you think would be the right choice.

Yeah niku I have shortlisted 3000 Series as well but since its a Family Series we may not get the professional edition of Software/OS along with the System.

Hi ppl,
I didnt find any thread on buying a laptop abroad on pagalguy, so I am asking the question here, If it already exists plz redirect me.

I am getting a laptop from abroad, I havent decided the exact specifications or the company : . However, I hv a few questions;

  1. With all the duty cuts in the last budget, would i really get a good deal abroad
  2. Are international warranties honoured in India
  3. Would there b a problem if a company is not offering a product in india that i may get from abroad
  4. And some info abt the custom duties and other levies

Plz advise ASAP. I will b getting it in 2 weeks time. All those laptop gurus plz help me out. My budget is around 60k including everything but I can b flexible on non-essentials like software and accessories
