hello people i customised dell inspiron 640m and 6400 with config os-xp pro processor-t2400 ram -1gb hard disk-80gb battery-9lithium cell and many more, right now i dont have time. rest of things i will post later.i have requested for a quotation and price which i got on net was 62k and 64k for 640m and 6400 resp. +local taxes.i think its a much better deal and i am waiting for it.anyone is interested.
Acer Travelmate 4150 sounds good!!! I've attached the spec sheet. Sells for around 43K i guess. not sure. 1640 and 4060 are some other options.
Acer is the only guy i've seen to sell Lappies with Linux 😃 That saves a lot of money.
As for Compaq - Compaq Presario V2381TU (EM849PC) seems to be good. I guess it lacks a few stuff Acer 4150- has. compare the 2. You shud check the Compaq and Compaq and Acer sites for further info.
Between these 2 - i cant pick any. I think i'd go with Acer. Since they are pretty new (compared to Compaq) u'd probably end up getting a good deal :)
Iday
thanx a ton man...........
i was just hoping to hear from some first hand users of ACER/Compaq lappys or their friends........who have faced some problems........is there nyone here
It seems a lot of ppl have doubts regarding the service of DELL.. well the best ppl to erase these doubts would be the current users of DELL..right? There is a community at orkut of DELL users, u can talk to the users there and I am sure all your doubts would be cleared...:)

well anil i dont know the difference b/w IT radeon /nvidia ge force/intel media acclerator 950 cards. So could anyone elaborate on this one.
ATI and Nvidia are the best when it comes to graphics cards. In the case of HP 5118 and the Dell 6400, 256 MB of dedicated VideoRam is provided. That makes it 1 GB of Ram plus 256 MB of Video Ram. But in case of laptops which have Intel Accelerator cards, the AGP memory is shared with that of the System Ram. So 1 GB RAM will not remain 1 GB.
well anil i have asked quotation for dell 640m with processor-t2400(1.86ghz) os-xp Pro RAM-1gb HARD DRIVE-100gb dvd writer 9 cell li-battery and large back pack. I am still confused b/w dell inspiron (with above stated config and i hope they add ATI radeon 256mb too) and hp 5118.So what shall i be doing .Which lappy should i go for?

Graphics card depends on the Motherboards. You cant just buy one and add it later. So its better to decide what you want now, rather than hoping to upgrade later 😃
well does dell has an option of ati radeon 256mb coz i didnt see it as an option while customising.if it has i would surely go for it.And tell which lappy to go for.

We're sorry, but we are unable to process your request. The E-value code you entered is either incorrect or expired. thats the message they are showing after entering N540505.Where did you find ati radeon?
17" Video is definitely bulky. Consider the same config with a 15" Video.
The other point is ... 17"ers are more in line with people who have to present (ations) without the Projectors and/or are keen on DVD viewing or gaming. Or for people who want to use the portable on a desktop. Eg my study room/ home office is small and I am looking at something which will save space.
For Dell Machines you can buy an international warrantee (additional cost and depends on the market you buy it in).
This for everyone:
What you will need to ensure you check while you buy a warrantee with a laptop is as follows: 1) the warrantee is service and replacement of all parts regardless of the cause of damage.( some warrantees do not cover customer induced damage like liquid spills on the motherboard or machine dropped and damaged). an expensive component like a motherboard aka mobo or a LCD Screen aka Video will cost upwards of $300 per unit. Also note that for laptops the video cards or the ports are usually inegrated on the mobo hence the mobo might need an xchange even if the problem is with something else.
2) the warrantee covers complete service and repairs. Including the cost of shipping the machine to the repair centre. some warrantees also do not cover the cost of the parts (Eg an AC Adapter is considered an accessory and if damaged would require replacement. The cost of replacement.)
3) Geographic area of validity of the warrantee. Ideal International-including all the continents apart from the Arctics.
4) Time period of the validity.Ideal 3 years which is more than the value life of your laptop.
Please note that the above is an ideal scenario.... and most of the laptops which are available in the market do not have an ideal warrantee bundled in the product. You can purchase the warrantee though.
And something about the Laptop+warrantee+accessories combo. ( apart from what has already been discussed at length) 1) Go for a vendor who is ready to give you a 0% interest EMI. 2) If I were you I will look at a wired keyboard and wired mouse and a laptop port as a part of the total pack. And will negotiate for a wireless at the same price. 3) The bag. Make sure that regardless of your leather fetish you get a bag which your laptop can be securely transported.
