Acer ferrari is an xcellent lappy...but it costs 99k+taxes.....so if its in ur budget go for it.....i would have bought it if i had 99k
I saw Sony's website , VAIO costs almost 1300-1500$ exc. of taxes. HP 5118 looks good as of now. Both of the same config, yet HP looks on the cheaper side.
Can you get any link as to where I can compare laptop prices in US?
Dude youre looking at the wrong series! Check out FS920 its 1014$ including shipping.
For deals check out pricegrabber.com and deals2buy.com
I am sorry if this has been discussed earlier ..
I just bumped into this config:
sounds almost similar to 5118
but much cheaper ..
One of my frens is interested in buying this ..

If I were in your position, I would have gone in for the 5118tx bulk deal (along with freebies, it is being offered at 62k in the pg bulk deal). ultimately, increase in your investment is only about 6k. when you are spending 56k on that thing, why not shell out a little more and get a much better piece.

Hey floyd&vodka; (sorry abt last time
)...I have a few queries before proceeding!!!
In the list u have given - I wudnbt opt for the extra $70 spent on Warranty. I "guess" that the "At-home service" will not cover india. So why pay 😃 Make sure of things in this front.
Is ur friend really interested in the 17" lappie. It wud be unconfortably heavy and big and i wudnt like to lug it around - considering the fact that he'd have to do this for the next 2 yrs by default. I wud advice u to put in the money, get a beefed up 15.4" one.
Like this one here!!!
I added the following stuff and it came to almost the same price as the earlier one, but loaded with features.
Processor = Intel Duo Core T2300 (1.66GHz)
OS = Win XP Media Center Edition, with re-install CD
Display = 15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA Display with TrueLife (read reviews that this truelife thingy improves display by a big factor)
Memory = 1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
Storage = 80GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
optical drive = FREE 8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
Display = 128MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1300 HyperMemory
Audio = Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio
Warranty = 2Yr Ltd Warranty, 2Yr At-Home Service, and 2Yr HW Warranty Support
Total = 1521 without applyng the coupon.
There are stuff which u can take away to bring the cost down still if u want to.
Infact - there is one such configuration in the deals2buy page too for 1505. The last one for this model. just drop the OS and extra warranty from that list - may be it will become still cheaper if u r not so keen abt the display and audio card :)

True mate, have been following that thread for a long time now, and the laptop seems to be a smashing one.
But, lemme put it this way, my budget was 50 Grand to begin with, which I have stretched to 56K! 61 seems a bit out of reach currently!
Sun
@Suneer,
You get a
* 256mb Geforce gfx card instead of a Graphics Media Acce. which sucks IMO.
* DVD burner
* 1gb instead of 512mb RAM
* 100gb HDD in HP, dunno in this model as you dint mention.
And many other smaller benifits like freebies, etc..
All this for 6k! I think you should consider HP.

Only minus point - Warranty not valid in India. Check out the Dell service and support. In case something happens to the laptop, nothing can be done except pay a hefty amount to get it repaired in India. Better to buy it in Dell India.

Thanks dude .. You certainly do have a good point regarding the screen size .. 17 inch cannot exactly be called "portable" might be tuffer to carry around ..
regarding the service and warranty .. can someone please make this more clear ..If I get the PC from outside, Dell will give absolutly no service in India or what ?
I will defintly ask my fren to check out the new cofig you gave .. thanks for that ..
As for me .. I am goin for the HP 5118 offer ..:
