Buying A Laptop

you could have done with a little less sarcasm there

lady, please get your facts right before posting. what do u know about dell's customer care, they are as good as anybody else in the market. Dont just post for the heck of it

even i was of the opinion that HP's services are better than those of dell.. To locate hp service cetres, one just needs to select his city from the following link:

http://h50022.www5.hp.com/peripheral_asp_finder.asp

For DELL, I was searching the Dell India website and could not locate anything other than 'online help'.. Personally, i'd be more comfortable with a 'service centre' (in major indian cities) so that i can go there personally and talk to them.. and i don't think that with dell, we have that flexibility.. if things are only done through a call centre located in bangalore, then where do you think would people turn to for service after speaking to the 'polite lady over the phone' in case some hardware problem crops up???... However, if you do know the link for finding 'authorised service centres' of dell in india, please do post the link here.
dell does not have any service centers..not in India and not abroad also....

you have to pay for phone troubleshooting..a tech will determine what problem the system has and a part will be sent to replace the defective part...if required..otherwise troubleshooting will be done on the phone....

you cant even ask for a tech to come...cos only the telephone tech will determine if you need a tech to come and fix the system...that is for desktops..

for notebooks..they have a mail in service...meaning if your notebook needs servicing..you need to ship it to the service center and they will repair it and send it back..in most cases only the motherboard is replaced...this is for hardware support....

u need to pay extra for software support...that is ONLY phone troubleshooting...no service centers.....

in which case...HP would be a better choice...

i agree.. DELL does not have a strong support in india when compared to others like HP.. they may have better support for the corporate deals they have with various MNCs but for the individual customer its the good old call centre..
hey puys Dell Inspiration 6400 with the following config:-

Intel Core Dual Processor 1.83 Ghz
1024 MB RAM
256 MB ATI Radion Graphics
15.4" Wide Screen XGA TFT Display with Truelife(TM): 1280x800
100 Gb HDD

All this from Singapore for about S$2100, i.e. about 61000 INR....
But the problem I am skeptical about DELL's service. Can u guys tell me how is customer care of DELL in India????

Dude,
The sys is good. But the screen, if you read the reviews, almost all of them suggest the WSXGA+ / WUXA screen. It costs about 130 - 140 $ extra but very well worth it. Also, make sure that you get it with International warranty or else, the Singapore warranty will not be valid here.

the config pranks quoted is jus the customization that is possible for the VAIO notebooks :)

Everything says upto - pick out the exact model and then compare specs. Look out for FS-920/742/840. Price range 1000-1100$ (incl. of shipping and taxes)

I had a talk with a couple of ppl using DELL. they said DELL has its onsite customer care. u just need to call them up and they will be there the next day.
one of them is using DELL for the past 2-3 yrs. and recently upgraded from 630m to inspiron 6400. he says the machine is brilliant!!!

pretty good no doubt....but its a 17" screen...are you sure it would be that portable?

No doubt portability won't be as good but I can't imagine working on eclipse on a 15" screen.. wont settle for anything less than that. the same config with 15" screen comes for 800-850$ i guess.

People use Eclipse in BSchools ? Or is this some other Eclipse ? :

Its the same eclipse. Contingency plans, you see :satisfie:

Actually, its not just about eclipse. There are so many softwares which are only usable on a 17" screen. For example, audio editing and others.

Okie...A question...
Does the Duo core processor do the work of a 64 bit processor?

Okie...A question...
Does the Duo core processor do the work of a 64 bit processor?

there is no specific work that a 64-bit processor does.. its jus faster coz of more bandwidth and faster internal calculation.. a 64-bit processor will be faster than a dual core processor i guess..

besides dual core processors are fast only if u r running 2 applications simalteneously..

hmm..is that exactly what a 64 bit processor does? the processor that we have are 32 bit processor..that means we can only run 32 bit application, so lesser calculations in more time...but i guess a 64 bit can do more calculation in the same amount of time..i mean a hundred times more than a 32 bit processor...does a duo core processor do tha same?

Is there any use in giving 6000 bucks extra and buy it from the showroom. I am getting the same thing, with international warranty and bill etc with the distributor.
The prices are as enquired by me in Mumbai. Will it be cheaper in Delhi? or any other place?
