i guess we'll need a poll to find out how many people will opt for the 5118, and for what price. please pour in your suggestions. the price ranges (to be given as options) that i can think of as of now are:

including taxes, anything upto Rs. 56,000
including taxes, anything upto Rs. 57,000
including taxes, anything upto Rs. 58,000
including taxes, anything upto Rs. 59,000
including taxes, anything upto Rs. 60,000

do we need to add anything else? once we've decided on it, we can pm one of the mods.

Count me in for the HP 5118!!
Just one question though!! whether all the lappys will be provided with a similar config(software,os,etc) or can individuals be provided with their choice.
ciaaoo

I am game for anything arnd 53-54.

Only one doubt...

hp has come up with remot control technology which is pretty useful for presentations (which, i suppose, would become our roti, kapada and makan after 2 months). That is available in the lower model (forgot the code name). Does 5118 have that feature?

Also, I would suggest that the thread starter (or ask moderator) start a poll with the options like

1) I am game for anything 2) I am game for anything 3) I am game for anything
Well, i guess 2-3k won't make much difference to anyone's budget and hence we can keep this kinda wide option to see the real density of ppl. Definitely we would try to negotiate the best deal, say starting with 50k, but then it might end up 1000-2000 here and there.

@wippybaba : If you're keen on getting a Dell from the US, check out www.deals2buy.com They put up the best offers on Dell, and using coupons you can save tons. I tried a few weeks back and was getting this same config for around 45k.

However, be warned that Dell India will not support the laptop at all. I called and checked. So in case something goes wrong while you're at school, it could lead to major chaos. I know people who have had to throw away their laptops cos the repairs outside warranty are too expensive.

@Euphoria : Yea, the 5118 has the remote and it's damn sleek.

me in for 5118,anythin for 55k

hi
if we can get an HP employee....then we can avail employee + bulk discount on 5118....nebody knows ne1 from HP?

Rahul

i doubt they'll give you both the discounts.. but yea, if ne1 knows ne1 from hp (esp. sales), then we can at least take this process forward and get some insight into what discount corresponds to how many laptops..

Rahul

no both the discount r not possible. i checked with a frnd in HP long time back. if they start offering that any employee will buy lappys and set up a shop of his own

i wonder if they will allow more that 1-2 lappys per employee !
it all depends on how much we are able to negotiate yaar.. like say, if the best that hp can offer is something above 58k, then i'd rather wait for sometime and get it thru an employee later coz it won't make much of a difference.

but yeah, if it's anything like 53-54k, then i think we should be able to gather 40-50 people at least, as funkypratik said)

do one thing, give an offer to hp itself.. ask them to quote in terms of ranges.. like say, if there are 50-75 ppl, then what's the price that they can offer it at.. it there are 76-100 ppl, then what price.. i think these two ranges would be more than sufficient.. don't think we can find more than 100 takers here.

thats a gr8 idea.. if they can give us a quote on the prices depending on the no of ppl, it will be easier to convince more n more puys.. as it is there seem to be quite a few 😃

@msadani,
I forgot to mention that the laptop also carries a 4 year international warranty with accidental damage protection plan and 2 years of free anti-virus subscription. So, it doesn't matter which country I stay. Also, they are offering a free wireless router (which I don't need anyway)

Yes, I had quoted the price inclusive of the international warranty. But, India not being there in the list of countries.. this is a surprise to me. Can you give me the link from where you have got this info?

count me in for 5118 if its anywhere around 55k.. The lappy is v good but its kinda heavy around 3.2 kgs..

it stands at abt 3 kgs i think, but most laptops with a 15.4" screen weigh so much.. if u want the ultra portable kinds, u will have to shell out a lot more and compromise on the screen size too..

besides 3kg is ok for the b-school use.. u wudnt be travelling a lot with it

HP employees can buy a maximum of 2 laptops in a calendar year. Has been confirmed to me by a HP employee

for those who haven't noticed.. the poll is up now...so, do we restrict this poll to hp 5118tx???... i've voted my budget anyways...
