have u had a look at hp 5118tx yet ? doesnt it make for a better deal at 65k.. infact if u can get it thru a HP employee its for abt 58 k..
1gb ram, 15.4", 100gb hdd, geforce 256 mb, dvd writer..
unless u r bent on lenevo, i think the HP makes for a better deal. for that matter even the DELL 6400 which maverick is keen on :)
Umm HPs got some nice features there although at a tad higher price than the Lenovo, Lenovo is offering some nice add ons with the N series and it looks real sleek that's what attracted me. Havent yet finalised but then would keep HP in mind before choosing one 😃
I own a acer travelmate and it is definitely value for money...and a 1.5 Ghz processor is more than enough. I would suggest laptops in the ange of 35k-40k as they have all the features. The costlier are a waste of money.
i have an idea , why don't we all pagals get together and then buy a good dell or ibm laptop in a bulk !
for one thing, as told by maverick there are no bulk deals at DELL..
secondly, most puys buying a laptop will be headed for a b-school whr they have bulk deals.. to work out a bulk deal at PG is not feasible coz of the logistics involved.. try sending a PM to PG himself..

no no... its actually a brilliant idea .... see u wont get the hp5118 offered in a bulk deal right... it'll probly be some thinkpad r52 which is a compromise right..?? if pg can come up with T shirts (which u cant buy with a debit card btw :-x ) i am sure he can arrange this thing.... see we can just start a thread wherin we all serious buyers can decide which lappy we do want...once that is done we can start confirming wether we want the selected piece or not... then if a big enough number is reached... we can contact the manufacturer and get things done.... wot say..???

hmmm... i dint have the "courier to differant places" wala idea in mind ... wot i thot was once the bulk deal is done...maybe we could send our drafts into pg and collect the lappys from whichever hp store is nearest to it....
or if pg aint too eager too handle all the money maybe we could just bargain as a team... and get hp to send us an email or a code which when produced at any hp outlet would get us our laptop at the bargained price....

then we will send pagal some token money like rs 5,000 to mr . pagal (just for assurance sake) then we will tell the vendor that every student will pay the vendor in his/her respevtive manner direrctly and mr. pagal would send him directly our 5,000 amount .

if we can convince the company and pull off a good bargain, then i'm sure there would be many takers. Like for example, if we get the HP 5118tx for something like 56 - 57k, then lots of ppl will take it up.
anyways, count me in... if the price is rite, i'll take it.. also, i know 2 other ppl who would be ready to pick up the 5118tx at that price.

Brilliant Idea everyone..esp the token amount and the codes thing. I am in.
A few things :
The bargaining with the HP guy shud be dam good to get us 55 K. HP would surely be ok with even 55K in a bulk deal..
Secondly, ur respective colleges have a deadline to inform that u won't be buying through them. If this deal has to go through, we need atleast 50 people within the earliest deadline.. Thatz TOUGH!... but we can do it if pg buys our idea...
Third and last, we are around 6-10 ppl who are ok with HP5118...when the numbers go up, there may be some interest in other lappys...we shud make it absolutely clear that this deal is ONLY for 5118...
so how do we proceed?

guyz!! gud goin...but this is not done!!......the idea of crackin a bulk deal with hp is excellent...... but a little earlier cud have solved my purpose as well....i was so damn impressed with hp dv 5118 tht i got this within a week of hearin abt it....had this been done then cud have saved 10k...thts a big amt yaar...
anywayz still no regrets!! 64k was also fine...... more than "worth it" for this babe
