if you are joining symbi family...then rest assured coz they order in bulk for all the symbi institutes(last yr they ordered 1000 laptops)....and got HP laptops costing 65k for 42-43k
.......even if a laptop is not compulsory for you you can always contact the authorities and they would be more than happy to oblige youcheers

hey guys... wots the chance that prices will drop between now and june... especially for the hp 5118 which seems to be the unanimous choice here....
i mean.. till june i'll be at home only where i have this prehistoric desktop... so i can wait... but i dont want to
i am not sure if the price wud drop much between now and june.. its a new model and its already cheap for the specs being offered. the best wud be to get hold of some HP employess to get it for u.. 58.5k then 😃

if you are going for a branded laptop, there shud not be any difference in price as its all company quoted. yes the dealer can pass on discount or give extra accessories to attract customers but that will not amount to much.. mumbai being a bigger city with more competetion among the dealers, the chances of a better deal there is more 😃

AMD 64-bit processors have an upper hand in performance over the intel 32-bit. but if u r going for a normal 32 bit processor i wud say stick to intel coz AMD is known to have heating problems..
besides, until u r running processes that r processor intensive, u wont really feel the difference between an AMD or a Intel
I beg to differ on this, Funky. I used an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ (32 bit) for 2 years and it worked perfectly well. And the stock temperatures used to hover around the 45 degree mark. And that too without any AC or any other thrills or frills.
The 64 bit proccy's are way way ahead, but the 32 bit's are not bad either. I am the living proof :D
i do not contest the 64-bit processors.. but again there are not many applications which are made to make use of the potential of the 64-bit processors..
abt the 32- bits proc even i speak from experience (that of my frnds).. lot of my frnds got the AMD athlons abt 2 yrs back owing to the cheap price.. ALL of them have faced problems.. be it heating problem or slow performance.. i havent had probs with my intel for a long time.. have been using it for 6 yrs in 2 comps..

not very sure abt the tax part but now with VAT shudnt the tax be uniform throughout ?
ny idea how to pay a foreign vendor, wen one has taken a bank loan for laptop, even my bankers are clueless (nationalised bankers obvio)

VAT is charged almost uniformly throughout the country. the curretn rate is close to 4%
In mumbai, the main problem would be octroi charges. I think these charges are applicable to laptops. and if i remember correctly, they come to a whooping 5.5% or somethin.. (not very sure about the rate, but am pretty sure that octroi was applicable at least until last financial year.. donno abt this year's budget details on it...)

if that is indeed the case then buying it from elsewhr (@abhi->jaipur) wud get u a cheaper deal. but since ur in mumbai, jus buzz a dealer and confirm it for urself..
😃 na mate...me is just a simpleton...listen...u want ur bank to pay a loan rite...loans don't actually PAY the vendor. u pay...get the BILL....show it in the EXPENSE REPORT to the bank...they will reimburse...thatz how itz done.
