Buying A Laptop

Have not checked the quotes on VAIO in singapore but for Dell/HP singapore was more expensive than India also!
Also, Sony offers international service for 49$ but in Asia it covers only Japan :(

Then what's the point in getting one ? I mean anything can happen. A lightning strike, and Boom! 😐

i was considering getting them from singapore but am not sure if international warranty is being offered by sony.. u have any idea ?

Don't hv much idea about Singapore. I bought mine from UK but their intl warraty did not include India (dunno why). It could be to promote sales from Indian outlets. Otherwise, everyone would just get it from Singapore/USA. That's what I think...I'm not sure about it though. You can simply drop in a mail to Sony Singapore Customer Care and see if they respond.

Aise mat bol yaar 😞 Thankfully, mine is working perfectly for almost an year now.

Hope MavericK's apprehension never turns into reality

Check out Dell XPS Gen 2. It's a lot lot better than those Alienwares, unless you want that Alien head sticking out of your Lappy

which ones are these ? can u post a link or the config..
Swaroop,

It's impractical to buy an Alienware if you're in India as there is NO tech support for it. On top of that, Alienware Lappy's are grossly overpriced compared to other Lappy's with similar configuration.

Ya, I agree. The only good thing about them (ALIENWARE) is that they are VERY VERY sturdy and have outta the world kinda looks !!

hey this Dell XPS Gen 2 has a decent enough config.whats is its price in india?

I hv seen some of Dell's 17" models. They are bulky. So, won't advice these for ppl looking for portability and light wt. Great for ppl looking for big screen and heavy config

17" is way too bulky. My roomie has a 12" Latitude. Its so damn light compared to my friends 15" HP model.

but 12" is way too small.. we do not need ultra portablity to go in for 11" or 12" screens.. yes 17" is way too large but 15" fits the bill perfectly.. wat say ?

The Lenovo 3000 N100 makes a good buy. Intel Centrino Duo Mobile Technology-Intel Core Duo Processor T2300 (2MB L2Cache, 1.66 Ghz, 667Mhz FSB)-WinXP-Intel 945GM Chipset-14.1 WXGA TFT-512 MB DDR2 SDRAM-DVD CD/RW Combo-80GB HDD-4-in1 Media Card Reader-6 Cell Battery. At 58,200 it seems a good. Just notch above there is the 15.4 in screen and loads of add ons.

Any comments on this one. Plan to buy it soon

hey govi,

have u had a look at hp 5118tx yet ? doesnt it make for a better deal at 65k.. infact if u can get it thru a HP employee its for abt 58 k..

1gb ram, 15.4", 100gb hdd, geforce 256 mb, dvd writer..

unless u r bent on lenevo, i think the HP makes for a better deal. for that matter even the DELL 6400 which maverick is keen on 😃

hey guys u all seem to b from the same institute so am kind of an outsider. anyways i had a toshiba satellite a-10 which sort of died out last week( dvd stopped workin an the sys coolin is malfunctioning). now am lookin at the hp pavilion dv5118tx at abt 65k. for this much its pretty good coz the neerest config in the viao is the sz series costin 124k. now the issue is wid the video card. the site says "up to 256MB system memory shared with >=512MB system memory". now all i can make out of it is that the graphics memory will be shared wid the main 1 gb ram. does this make much of a diff coz i do play games ( currently stuck on the nfs most wanted black list edition). i also customised a dell inspiron 9000 wid similar config for abt 90k tho the only adv is a dedicated 256mb ati radeon x1400. plz suggest on the video issue. also it seems s,e of u are already using this laptop. plz do leave sme reviews for the laptop. ( i went to this shop in gurgaon which was offerin the same config at same price wid geforce 7400 512mb)
cheers

dude shared memory only means that lesser ram will be available for other processes.. besides the geforce card provided by the 5118 has 128 MB dedicatied memory too..

this will be more than enough to run all versions of NFS till date and the future ones too.. even i am a racing freak and planning to get the same system..

my friend has bought a 5118 and is damm happy with the performance..
