Hi FunkyPratik. I am planning to buy the same laptop that you got. The HP Pavilion DV5118 TX. So how does it perform? And more about it. I heard it from the forum that if you get the same through any of the HP associates you would get a cool 8K off. Is it true? Can you help me in this regard. Please try to reply ASAP as i am running out of time.
i did not buy that laptop.. a friend of mine did.. well, he is damm happy with the performance.. battery life is abt 2.15 hrs to 3 hrs depending on ur usage.. absolute value for every buck u pay..
yes, if u buy thru a HP employee u get abt 8k off on the employee scheme 😃
hey,i would like to ask which laptop should i buy,my requirements apart from mba r games, music, dvd writer, can u specify the costliest, cheapest, most customizable one too??:

hmm... looking for short cut methods aren't we..?? a slightly more time consumin but enlightening option would be to just read through the last 10-12 pages of discussions that have been posted...
exactly.. lots has been discussed abt the optimal choice, cheapest.. reading thru the last 10 pages will give u all the details.. make sure u dont get into the last yr posts
Can I customize HP5118 with a 8 cell or 10 cell battery??? If yes, then how much it may cost??
yeah i think u can.. abt the price try the site if they have a customization option. else visit the local HP showroom.. shud not be a prob i gues.. u can also look at a spare battery

Thankx for the info. I tried the site and the customization option is not available there. Will try my luck with the vendor. I'm skeptical because I asked the same question at Acer showroom at nehru place, and they simply refused any kind of customization. (Tried that for Aspire 1641 model)..

dunno abt acer.. but HP does have customization option. the battery shud be a part of it..if not u can always go in for a spare battery which shud serve ur purpose..
I currently have HP CompaQ nc 6230 -Intel Centrino 1.7 Ghz, 512 MB RAM, 60GB HDD. It has a quoted battery back up of 3 hours but fact is if you are actually running a presenttion or an excel sheet the battery maxes out at around an hour and a half. I think in most of the cases where battery back up is quoted by the manufacturers the battery life is for idle use. So if I leave my laptop alone for 3 hours it will last but every single process I run decreases it by some amount. So please do verify this in case battery back up is a prime concern. However all conference rooms do have plug in points in most offices and battery back up shouldn't be a major concern unless u plan to use the laptop outdoors. Just my 2 cents

Cheapest - ASUS A6B30TU-DU - 52000Dell Inspiron(TM) 630M - 48000 You go cheaper than this and you won't get all the options. And customizable - > all lappys are customizable...but most customizable is of course DELL.

Hi guys, Wat's ur take on toshiba as a brand? And do have a look @ Toshiba Satellite M70-P5301 model. I think it's a gr8 deal at approx. 60k. Checked with a local dealer for the price. It's MRP is 63k.
Price is 52.5K INR (deduct 6.5 for HP Associate scheme) and the lowest price will come to 46K!
Whats the opinion junta?
decent enough if u are not much of a gamer..
the cons i see (being a gamer) 1. less RAM (only 512) and slower (ddr 333 mhz) 2. less HDD space.. 20GB less 3. no graphics card.. (integrated intel is crap) 4. 14" screen 5. battery life might be an issue (6 cell battery)
one good thing i liked is relatively lighter.. also gr8 for 46k if u can manage thru a HP employee..

toshiba as a brand for laptops is good.. i wud rate is one of the best, second only to VAIO ! but expensive..
the config of m70-p5301 is relatively poor for 63k.. 256 MB ram, 60 GB hdd, no graphics card.. not worth the price at all.. the HP 5118 is a much better bet

Well, first me aint a gamer (at least not the online ones!) - taking a closer look at the cons.... 512 RAM (me thinks is pretty good enough for my b-school requirements - movies, music, surfing and some ctrl-c/ctrl-v presentations) 80GB HDD space - it has a double layered dvd writer, so i can write all the backup i want and hell, 80GB is huge! 14" screen - actually thats the USP for me, really sleek looks and portability
Also, those using the dual core - wats the take on the comparison with existing centrino's and the heat factor?
This one is gOod....if u gonna shell out the money and buy it yoself..and if u ain't a gaming freak, and u ain't gonna see no dvds!
but when the college is ready to give u a comp for 50 K with around 15 K savings in a bulk deal.....u shud aim for highest value for money in the range 65 K..and in that range 5118 RULEZ! 😃
