um guys...i'm totally at sea (well, mostly) at all the specifications being posted here so plz don't lynch me for my complete ignorance. i just wanna know what all models are available within 30k-40k....and how enabled one can expect them to be (vis-a-vis wi-fi etc). plz post whatever you guys know. thanks.
hey there,
it'd be easier if u could tell us what u wanted to use the laptop for...
if u plan it for ur b-school usage,
initially think about getting the configuration right,
i'll try to explain the most important components (to the best of my lmited knowlwdge 😉 )... anyone else reading is requested to add to this or even correct me if somethin's wrong...
forget bout the brands first, think bout the config and then see if u can get it in all of the brands...
firstly, think about the processor, its like the heart of ur machine. if cost is a major factor then go in for a celeron processor, or else if u can stretch ur budget to bout 50k, u can get a centrino processor (which would be a wise option since u'd have to use it atleast for 2yrs- and this is one component that u can definitely not upgrade)...
secondly, the RAM- simply put, determines how fast ur comp performs when u're multitasking or even otherwise... to visualize it in a simpler way... look at it as the space that its used to store all the temporary data being worked on.. so larger it is, the better (to an extent...lol). the bare minimum would be 256mb ram but 512mb wouldn't hurt.
next would be the harddisk- this is the part that stores all ur data, be it ur songs, movies, documents, programs et all... a decent amount would be 40gb. increase it depending on how much u aim on storing. to give u a picture (a vcd stores about 0.7GB, an MP3 song is generally 5MB (1024MB=1GB), so visualize it...)
From ur post i understand u're concerned bout wifi connectivity, well, most of today's laptops have a wifi enabled card which supports wifi connectivity... sont worry bout that... depends on maufacturer to manufacturer... should say somethin like Intel PRO/Wireless Network or Connection 802.11b/g and stuff
as far as the size, 14" should be good enough (considering ur budget).
and as far as drives are concerned, i guess if u dont need to do any dvd writing, just go for a cd writer with dvd rom- CD-RW/DVD-ROM
guess that's bout it for now,
now that u know a lil... try getting hold of consumer reports guide to buying a laptop or something, brushin up a lil more by googling, then discussing with a friend who knows bout all this and then getting one...
ATB,
SAM
P.S>> i dont claim to know ething, i may be wrong, this is just a lil stuff that i thought i'd share, stuff that i learnt bout during my laptop search...
take a look at these, think they're nice offers...
