great answer tob or not to be...soundsl iek ure highly recommeding the acep laptop u suggested to me...
the compaq one u suggested comes with a dvd -cdrw...not dvd rw.....thats what the website said...maybe u were looking at a different deal on the compaq and cud give me the link for that...
ill be in touch with u mate..good solid advice from u ...
how much wud the acer cost by the way
Well to tell you frankly, thats something even I don't know..configuration wise nothing to lose infact 4150 has better configuration than most of the lappies present in the market, infact the only comparable laptop in the market is an ibm one for arnd 70k.
May be build quality is one, but then i've seen worse laptops from dell and compaq.
The only -ve point is that u'll be getting a lot of remarks from ppl (who obviously don't know anything abt lappies) saying that u could've gone for a laptop from dell/compaq/ibm.
its already said on many threads lots of times ... pls dont quote such a big msgs ... just quote the part relevant to ur reply ... it just wastes the page space
yar i want to buy a good laptop so that i dont need any upgradeation for next two year
so plz suggest the brand name and also the model number my budget is Around 80k
actually i will import it from DUBAi so model name is must..............
If u need a DVD-RW, you can always upgrade any lappy at the time of purchase although it would cost you additional money (a lot of money to be precise). The amount would differ from brand to brand, so you should check with the dealer.
And, yes I am recommending Acer TM 4150, as in my personal opinion, it has got the best features and offers the best value for money. 2 weeks back the price was arnd 50K including 4% VAT.

iPOD offers the best sound quality, and now u have so many accessories to go with it, too. Since the price difference is quite a bit between the 512 one and mini that it'll have to be ur decision only. I think 512 should be enough u can store arnd 100-120 songs on it.
The price u r getting is comparable to that in the market, so go for it..
do any one of u have any idea on IPOD what is the gizmo is all about is it worth to buy
and what about the sound quality it is giving and i m getting it 4 rs 5600 of 512MB

hey GRV, i too own a Dell Inspiron and its from the US, its true that there r no service centers for Dell but they have their technicians spread all over the country. incase if a problem arises with ur lappy u just have to call on a toll free no and the technician will b at ur service.
Didn't u got any idea by seeing the posts on this page itself...

I am gonna join IIITB this year...They are insisting every one to buy a Laptop from the institute...they also charge 60 K for this....All i know is, thats gonna be a Compaq PRESARIO notebook..I have no idea about the configuration...DOES ANY ONE VE ANY IDEA BOUT THE CONFIGURATION GIVEN THIS YEAR...FOR THE 7TH BATCH STUDENTS ???? (note: institute buys bout 130 -140 notebooks every year....Will the deal be the best if we r gonna buy from institute ???) PLZ REPLY.... Thanks in advance, karthik
welll ibm requires no second thought if it doesnt stretch out of ur budget ... abt gettin a laptop ... welll when u buy one u need to consider tht u gonna use it for atleast 2-3 yrs ... so make sure u get the best available now ... so go for ibm .... prefer 512Mb RAM .... rest all should go absolutely fine ....
Some advice: Go for a 14" TFT as it will consume less battery power. You will be seeing more movies than anything else so see for a good graphics and higher RAM. Go for one that has an Infra Red Port also, called IrDA port. It makes very easy data transfer between two laptops. Go for a lighter one.

Well i for one can vouck for what maddevil says because i got mine form the US too and was quite worried about the same...
I got a problem a few days back when my laptop hibernated by itself...somehow... and nothing i could do would make it come back,,,i called them and they just asked for my model no. and date of purchase and where i had purchased it from and a couple of other details.. chassis no. etc...
The lady on the other end was extremely nice to me and solved my problem on the phone itself...She also said that if i was to be in one of the bigger cities they could send over someone to look into it,,,
They're obviously not going to put anyone on the bus to shimla for petes sake...
So dont worry...also one way of looking at it is..u dont get warranty for 3 years but u get ur laptop for 20 g less...
so even if somehting does go wrong and u have to pay dell for it...its very unlikely u'd be spending more than 20g on getting it repaired..
thats why i got the 1 yr limited warranty and not the 3 year on site
I read somewhere (on the HP-Compaq forum in fact) that the cooling fan of all HP-Compaq laptops remains on at all times. Does this affect battery life or other performance of the lappie adversely??
And what about other laptops like IBM (lenovo), Dell, Toshiba etc?? Do they have the same problem?
I've got myself a Lenovo (R50e) laptop form the USA. 1.6 GHz Centrino, 512 MB RAM, 40 GB HDD, wi fi, LAN, modem etc. Cost about $1000. What say, a good deal? I think the HDD should have been bigger.
Check out www.tigerdirect.com for great offers on lappies and other computer accessories (Iomega 80 GB extrernal USB HDD, 7200 rpm for $60!!). I got mine from here only, but it's out of stock now. They have some great limited period offers and discounts. 😃
