One question: Is Laptop really necessary for MBA purpose?? I mean all that is required (as far as I understand considering my requirement) is MS office, net surfing and entertainment (which for me is limited to movies and songs, I dont like gaming). So considering these requirements I feel portability & battery life are the most important considerations as not much processing power is required for these purposes. So wont a netbook/notebook suffice or I am missing something? Also any suggestions about netbooks/notebooks? What configuration, brands etc.
P.S.: Ofcourse everything depends on one's personal choice and requirement. All I want to know is that is there anything that I have not taken into consideration.
A netbook will definitely suffice . Laptops are 90% used for entertainment (which is majorly movies ,TV series etc) and you hardly get time to play Games once ur in MBA college π .Rest its only MS office that you would be using for making reports and presentations.
But there may be instances when you may be required to use softwares like Adobe Photoshop , SPSS(for marketing guys) etc which may not work well in the most basic processor. So keeping that in mind and playing a safe move atleast look for a decent processor viz . dual core and atleast 2GB of RAM. And you can get such configs in netbooks also .
And if you are not into creatives and all ...so u wont be requiring these heavy softwares at all just like me...so no need for dual core as well but do go for maximum RAM as possible.
hii guys please suggest me a laptop in the range of 32k-35k My proposed configuration is Processor i3,i5 op with dos only 3-4 gb ram 320-500gb hard disk dedicated graphics 512mb-1gb 15.6' screen i'll prefer HP / dell also a query why HP g42 and g62 series are less popular than dv6 series. Is there any problem with g series...

Is the discount available for online order too? bcoz it doesn't shows up on the site when I customise a system.
However, when I talk to the representatives on phone, they say that they'll give this discount only to Central govt/PSU employees.
will this discount show during personalization too or they will deduct after that?
this discount is not shown during customization....but when u book the order the dell representative who will contact u for the payment will let u know about such a discount and it would be reflected in the corresponding quotation/order for the same.
the discount is there for corporates too.....its as follows:
3% on inspiron w/o 3 yr complete cover 5% on xps w/o complete cover 8% on all systems with 3 yr complete cover
P.S. : i m myself working in TCS and got this info from one of the dell representatives
my father works in punjab state power corporation and chacha works in municipal corporation so does these things count in PSUs? will i get any discount or not?

With a 3 year cover u r entitled to 8% discount based on the following -
All Central Govt Employees and not for the state ones.
For corporates its available for some 43 companies that are in their list.Just call any dell representative and tell him your company and ask if you can avail discount for that or not.
Thirdly for students its not for all colleges ..the ones i know are NITs , IITs , IIMs , NMIMS , ISB etc.
Discounts are available when you place your online order to a Dell employee along with a scanned copy of i card / company card whichever applicable.

Well, I guess battery backup is mostly depending on fact that u have a 6-cell battery or 9-cell battery. 9-cell battery goes for 5 to 6 hours as compared to 6 -cell battery whch last for 3 to 4 hours.
This is like ur general power backup which can go low depending on ur application usages, software used, power usage profile and number of things u r performing on ur laptop at a time.
Processor have got less effect on power performance.
tell me laptop in the 45K range. help required urgently.
check out dell inspiron 15R or lenovo z570. You can get good packages for less than 45k,though price will depend largely on what kind of system do you require

hey i need a system for general mba usage. lil bit of HD movies and netsurfing.
i'd have to agree with #3 on the ways to save money. get someone from abroad to pick one up - you could even get a decent price on a mac if you're interested, but PCs would be more compatible with most existing software.

is dell recommendable? what bout HP?
The only and only factor where Dell triumphs is their service, and warranty extensions.
Otherwise, Dell: 1. Looks average (Alienware exempted) 2. Is heavier 3. Heats up more than HP or Lenovo. But not so much that you may classify it as a heating issue. Let's just say that you wouldn't want to put a Dell in your lap on a warm evening, especially if u are wearing shorts. 4. Is costlier, in some cases, by a lot!
However, one thing I treat as paramount is reliability. While they do break down, more or less as frequently as an HP or Lenovo, they'll get repaired much sooner than the others.
what is the basic difference between 'inspiron' and 'xpx' versions of Dell ? xpx is costlier than inspiron ! why so ?
