hey, u may not have to pay any duty provided the person carrying it shows it as if he is using it and that it belongs to him. generally majority of the companies r offering an international warranty on their models so once u get ur piece u can transfer ur warranty from US to Asia database to avail free service in India for the stipulated period.

I think that it makes sense to ask the college authorities .Lemme Give u an example .If afer one year the college decides to install Wi-Fi, then u need to make sure that ur Laptop is Compatible with the Wi- Fi insallations in ur college , so that u can use it .So u see ,knowing the model which the college will prefer is importamt.

well i have got the deal for around $1200 but unfortunately without an international warranty because it would have raised the cost by almost $400 (compulsory for 3 yrs) so i had to forego it. All in all i think its a good deal, regardless of international warranty.

hey sandman, my config was 512 MB RAM, 80GB HDD, Pentium M 715, graphics card was 64 Mb, Bluetooth. but b4 my cousin could buy the discount coupon got expired. is it ok if i use 64 mb graphics card for gaming? i hope i will get to play games demanding high graphics by using this card.

Dell lappies can only b purchased online. discount coupon is available at deals2buy.com on the first page itself...dunno worry the steps r given there as to how one should go abt to avail the discount. well there r many service engineers of Dell throughout India therefore servicing it wouldnt b a problem, its just that i will have to pay instead of getting it done free of cost. and anyways i will be saving around 10k-15k so that more than offsets the warranty thing. the cost was $1143 which had gone upto $ 1210 because of taxes.

i'm not sure if 64 MB graphic card wud be able to play graphic heavy games....
i've narrowed down my choice to IBM thinkpad R series(the one iwth the ad in newspaper n upgraded hard disk 60 GB,dell inspiron 6000,and sony vaio B102 something series...
the prices of all the laptops are all around 60k....

this isnt true coz dell keeps coming with its own offers like $250 off on the price and the discount coupons cannot be clubbed with dell's offer...so if u apply the coupon after finalizing the order,the dell discount gets cancelled....so u'd get the above lappie at around the mentioned price of $120....abt the taxes and everything....it is clearly mentioned in the dell website....it even allows u to estimate the taxes and shipping costs...i'm not sure if u have included the taxes yet...so check the site again...
