see. cheaper is nt d only feature; its just one of the feature for selection of the laptop. for example , acer machines i3 laptop wud cost u just Rs.24500. wid 2 gb ram, n 320 gb hdd..:drinking:
i wud suggest u to go for lenovo z560.its big plus point of intel 2nd gen processor. its a gud sturdy laptop.
also u cn luk for dell inspiron 15r- i3 ,3 gb ram ,320 gb hdd, Windows 7.. arnd 35k.. it has complete cover warranty- that is, warranty against physical & water damage. no oder company is giving that

Is i3 processor sufficient for above multi-tasking or i5 is required??

In addition to above info I want to state that I will do office work,music,net,movies..no gaming.......want battery of atleast 3 hr........Want to use laptop for 3-4 years..
Getting ACER ASPIRE 4738,14 inch with core i3 380M in 27500 with 2 YEARS WARANTTE.......(though my budget is 35000,but wats the harm in getting gud lappy for less price)

Should I get above or should I stick to Sony or DELL

netbook are just for ur basic work. they are not as fast as the traditional notebooks. if ur work is just limited to making some presentations, ms word, excel, and do some email work, a netbook wud suffice the purpose. but if u want it for entertainmnt purpose or playing games,u need a notebook

will there be considerable difference in quality and performance between DELL laptops and other company laptops or is it just for the brand that one needs to pay more price

I am specifically looking at the comparsion b/w Acer and Dell??

PS: hope comparsion b/w computer brands is not banned on PG

i have pretty much made up my mind to buy an xps 15 with following config:

Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit (English)
McAfee(R) Security Center - 30 Days Trial Version

6 Cell Primary Battery
Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 with Bluetooth v3.0+HS
Dell Backlit Keyboard
Microsoft Office Starter 2010: reduced-functionality Word & Excel w/ads. No PowerPoint or Outlook

the total online price comes to arn 48000

pls let me knw if its a good buy.

also how heavy is the xps laptop cnsidering we may hafta move arn a bit

My Opinion - Not a good Buy..

1. You dont need a 500 gb HD..320 is more than sufficient and u can always get a portable HD later..
2. McAfee trial and office trial are useless..u will as it is not buy the software later on. Pirated u can get as it is..
3. 15.6 can get a bit heavy. try 14" instead..
4. You can get i5 with ur other features and graphics card in arnd 40k in dell inspiron !!

Well, this is just my opinion..

Cheers!

The Processor that you get in an XPS is different from the one in Inspiron...

The XPS brand has the 2nd generation, ie, Sandy Bridge version of the processors, whereas the Inspiron version has the older version. I have seen across net that SB version is far superior, but I am not too sure whether its worth the price diff.

Another difference is in the speed of the HDD. XPS has a 7200rpm one, whereas Inspiron has a 5400rpm one. Now that in my experience can bring in differences in user experience. Similarly with all the other specs.

hi its a nice buy,..and iam too going for XPS 15 as no other model can beat it in the price range...
One think i want to share is go with FHD screen as i have heard from a lot of review that its worth its price and buying a XPS without it will not be a good option(and u will love it every time when you use your lappy )..and the backlit K/B is also another loving feature of it...ATB

That is awesome configuration bro and if you get it at that cost, there is nothing to think about, but I really am skeptical about the Asus brand. I haven't seen much sales for the brand when compared to others, though the cost is considerably less. Maybe some puy will be able to give in there views on the brand.

If the computer will be primarily used for gaming, the i3 is a better choice. The Athlon II X4 is better for multitasking, doing video editing or 3D design work, because those applications are multi-threaded and benefit greatly from additional cores being available.

Most games arent coded for more than 2 threads, so it doesnt matter whether a CPU is quad-core or dual-core, what matters is the CPU clock speed. The i3 530 is 2.93Ghz while the Athlon II X4 260 is only 2.6Ghz. Also, given equally clocked CPUs of equivalent core counts the Intel processors outperform AMD processors, albeit for a higher price.

This brings us to the prime directive of gaming performance Your GPU is more important than your CPU!!

Having a lesser cost CPU and higher cost graphics card yields better gaming results than a higher cost CPu and lesser cost graphics card.

Now if youre playing mostly casual games and doing video editing, DVD decoding etc the Athlon II X4 620 is preferable. Its fast enough to play those games smoothly and the extra cores makes such a huge difference in the latter tasks its worth the lower gaming performance in tough titles.
