see , the thing is ,more d number of ppl u ask, more confuse u get wid wot to buy. its an excpetional case dat ur frnd's laptop crashed twice. dell's hardware is not that erratic.. xps is a very good laptop. dat is one of the rare cases where it crashed. but also keep in mind dat the laptop must have been fixed at utmost priority..so dats an advatage na:cheerio::cheerio::cheerio: Verdict: xps is a very good alternative
Some of the points before buying a laptop: 1)Recognize ur need. u really don't need a corei5 processor necessarily for an MBA course, until and unless u want to go for high end work(technical). i3 or core2duo can suffice the use. 2) u need to carry ur laptop a lot during ur mba course. look for laptop with lightr weights. 3) avoid a graphics card if not necessary. it wud decrease the laptop's battery backup, increase the heat. p.s. u can play normal games with intel HD graphics (on board graphics card). everyone doesnt play Halo3 4)look for battery backup and the longevity of battery, ie, after how much time u have to replace the battery. Also keep in mind the cost of consumable spares like battery and charger.. for some companies their prices are sky high 5)always keep in mind the warranty factor-how is the after sales service.

its compact but heavy...this laptop weighs heavy. hardware for alienware m11x is almost flawless. awesome machine... showrooms dun keep this coz dell doesnt provide demo machines for the retailers. u cn always see the machine at dell exclusive stores.

ya bro ur right...but i5 and i7 the performance differnce is pretty less ...and core 2 is most suggested one so more keen to it...itsnt heavy in comparision to other segments...Alienware M11x Review
Based entirely on personal experience and anecdotal evidence, I would advise against buying Dell. Everyone I know who bought Dell has had his/her laptop crash within an year of purchase.
I myself have an Acer that hasn't given me a single problem in over 3.5 years. A friend owns a Gateway (another Acer company) and that laptop has worked smoothly for 3+ years as well.
I think the fact that Acer recently beat Dell for the no.2 spot in US sales points to how their laptops perform v/s competitors. For my money, I would gladly buy Acer again.
Other companies I've heard good things about are Toshiba and Lenovo. But by all accounts, if you can get your hands on a IBM ThinkPad, you should be golden - its still the best laptop by fair.
I have ordered a MacBook Pro 13" from the US, to be delivered by a cousin in May-end. Wanted to club the Ipod-touch rebate offer for students too, but it has not been launched as yet.
1) is it worthwhile to wait for a little more while? (max 2wks)
2) How is the after-sales service of Apple in India? I should be based either in Mumbai, Pune or Bangalore. All 3 cities have Apple showrooms. This I know of a fact.
3) The total cost with tax comes to around $1184 (Rs. 54k approx). Is it a good deal?
4) What negatives are there of owning an Apple in India?
5) What about MS Office? It is not part of the package!!

macbook pro 13 costs arnd 72k in india aftr student discount..so over all its a good deal since u r buyn it from US, u l hav to confirm does the laptop has an international warranty (generaly it doesnt) owning an apple doesnt hav negatives as such xcpt from the software problem. u need to hav a set of ur own mac compatible software which ur friends might not have. before purchasing any device for ur laptop or even any software u hav to c whether its mac compatible or not. that shortens ur choice range as we dont hav many mac fans in india Ms office is not bundled with the system.u l hav to purchase it separately.
