i think this is more of a choice of what o.s you plan to use.i personally recommend the mac because its better and more easy.i will advice you to get one of the recently updated mbp.
Requirements - basic mba,movies... i dont play video games

Brand preference/dislike - My company has provided with a dell xps(m1330) for the past 2 years...its very robust with metal finish and good performance ..but i know it costs more than 50k :(......hence fine going with other models...

One of my friend suggested in ACER we can get the same features at comparitively less price compared to Dell...so want inputs on the same

Budget - Around 35 k ..at max 40 .. i d not want to spend much on laptop as they tend to be outdated pretty soon

open to online purchase - Not very much comfortable in online purchase...but if the cost diff is more ,would give a thought over it

And will there be considerable cost difference b/w laptops in Bangalore in Mumbai???

As i would be in Bangalore for next 20 days...and in mumbai for next 2 years

size - the current one i am using is 13'....it is very much sufficeint...i may go at max for 14'....the smaller the size the more comfortable carrying it around

upgrade -As mentioned earlier..i would not be doing any heavy duty stuff(like gaming) etc ....so max it would be remaining as my personal laptop for a considerable amount of time (As long as it works:lookround:)

My friend (A geek:lookround:) suggested that a dedicated graphics card would not be reqd as i will not be into gaming

my current laptop has 3 GB ram...its pretty decent....i am planning to have 4 GB ram...not sure abt i3 and i5 processor....

looking for a compact ,robust laptop which is quite portable..

kindly help me in a choosing a good model

Hello. Here are my requirements. Pls suggest some options!

Requirements - basic mba, watching movies .(OS - Windows)

Brand preference/dislike - Open

Budget - 40-50K

open to online purchase - I'm actually planning to get it through one of my friend who is traveling to US.

size - Want a light weight laptop which is easy to carry around.

upgrade - Minimum - 2 to 3 yrs at least

For MBA, the only major software that we are going to use is MS Office (Word/Excel/Powepoint). Dell inspiron 14R is a good buy. It also comes in DOS version in case you plan to install your own operating system. This would save you a couple grands. 14" laptops are better to carry around compared to 15"+ laptops.

The acer 5745 should suffice your needs.yes your friend is right since you do not game there is no need for a dedicated gfx card but it helps ti view full hd content.the price on the ebay link i am providing you is atleast 2 k less than what you can get in the market.the only con is the 15" screen size if you do need more portability please let me know i will provide alternatives.

eBay India: Acer Aspire 5745, Core i5 , 4GB, 500GB with Dos (item 160578924846 end time 04-May-2011 08:00:00 IST)

hey puys. which would be the best laptop to buy just for the purpose of studying an mba??
I am not fond of anything flashy. no show off, nothing. just want to use the lappy for 3 years and get my mba done comfortably.
the only concern would be the value for money and after sale service. i don't wish to go through any repair and upgrade thing later. so reliability would be one factor.
please give me your suggestions.

the inspiron is for you buddy.its very sturdy and has a great finish.best thing is its very relaible and if you are looking for say 3 to 4 years you can always get the extra warranty from dell when you purchase it.also the warranty is onsite so no issues there.

here's the link

the acer in terms of after sales service is decent.nothing great but decent.the only problem with acer laptops is their build which is a lil over sturdy but for specifications nothing beats acer.

yeah inspiron is a good choice. but i heard it has over heating issues. is it true? i have been using a dell vostro for 4 years now. it is also having over heating problem now( 4 years is too much so not an issue).

^^ the inspiron will only heat when you do heavy duty stuff like gaming.for normal usage it wont give you much heat at all.

Hi ,

i would be going for mba this year, i already have ACER 5738Z, which is pretty decent, but i want to keep it at home, and want to go for a fresh one..

my req:-

Requirements - something which is suff for basic MBA needs, movies, LAN gaming (heard that wifi connection in nitie is rocking. 😃 )

Brand preference/dislike - Dell,Hp,Lenovo ( dont want to go for acer due to its heating problem, and i am really reluctant to buy compaq,.) and dont want to go for apple or sony viao due its high cost, suggest it some other brand is reliable enough and fits into my budget .

Budget - around 40K dont want to spend too much for a lappy.

open to online purchase - dont hv any prior exp of ordering costly item like laptop via online..but i m open to it.

size - preferably 15", but can manage with 14" if costs becomes significant factor.

upgrade - not really interested in upgrade.

^^^ hey mate i believe the inspiron would suffice your needs.will also fulfil your gaming needs and since you are in nitie mumbai i can personally say that dell's service is mumbai is very good.i believe if you buy this inspiron you wont really need a upgrade anytime soon since it packs a pretty powerful processor already.
