Buying A Laptop

I purchased a 14" lappy 4 years back, whereas all of my friends bought a 15" one. And I am still happy that I bought a 14'' one for the following reasons:

1. Definitely much more comfortable to carry around than 15", not only becoz of light weight but much compact dimensions.
2. 50% better battery life. Might seem an exaggeration, but yes, this is the case. It has been four years, I haven't changed my battery and it still gives a backup of 30-40 minutes.(I use my laptop pretty much throughout the day)
3. Wouldn't realize any difference in watching movies or gaming vis-a-vis a 15" one.

IMHO, buying a 14" laptop has only advantages over buying a 15" laptop.

P.S. This time I am going to buy a 13.3" one. :cheerio:

i too hav 2, 13" laptops. dell studio xps13 and dell adamo 13. :-)
laptops r meant fr portability. go fr it 😉

Puys here is some information for the laptop lovers and gamers out their ..
Comparisons of graphics card used by popular lapotops ...U can also compare how these cards handles different games....

1.Dell xps 15- NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M / NVIDIA GeForce GT540M

2.Dell inspiron 15R- ATI Mobility Radeon HD 550v

3.Dell inspiron 14R, Sony viao e series - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650

These are the most common mid ranged graphics card used in laptops..Among these Nvidia GT 540 is a 2Gb and the best one..
And from the rest of the 1 GB cards, i found from the website is that Nvidia GT 525 and ATI 5650 are almost equivalent and superior to ATI HD 550V. But Nvidia uses optimus technique saving the battery power and Dell allows use of shared graphics card which is Intel HD Graphics 3000 included in the intel's 2nd generation i series processors chipset..so under normal use laptop will use GPU as Intel' s HD 3000 saving battery and heat generation and under immense use it will start using Nvidia GPU..

Guys Pls share ur comments also...

As far as watching movies and web surfing is concerned even a Pentium 4 will be sufficient.. so core i3 is far great for movie watching and web surfing and u will never regret using this but editing videos, graphics and gaming will definitely requires i5 or even i7 ...
so i3 will be sufficient for ur task but seeing the future u must add the latest thing if it fit's in ur budget..

An i3 comes cheap these days...why go for a p4! as you rightly said, we need to look out for the future too....plus a decent config never hurt anybody...

quick specs. corei7 (2nd gen)
4gb ram
750 gb hdd
1 gb nvidia graphics
windows 7 home premium
for the difference btwn xps and isnpiron , plz refr to my previous post :-)

nice pc
one more thing do the dell xps premier service cover the accidental insurance ?
and what else difference is there in there xps service and inspiron ?

i have been doing some digging around to buy laptops for 3-4 ppl(trying for some kinda bulk deals) and got to know that Dell Inspiron 15R and 14R, both are about 30K without the OS and MS office. the HP model mentioned here is also without the OS and MS Office(correct me if im wrong)..so i think Dell is proving to be a bit cheaper....plus, i have been told that Dell is better in terms of service..i got both Dell and HP, so can easily say Dell is better
PS: this is for i3 processor with 320 GB hard drive, 2 or 3 GB RAM(dont remember whch) and other standard features..nothing too hifi

there are many laptops ,both notebooks and netbooks, but go with i3 processors instead of atom processor

hp-compaq cq62-455tu
lenovo essential g 460
dell 14 r

hai some one tell which processor is gud.i series or core to duo.hav heard that i series wont support some applications nd also not supporting xp2 os etc.so which processor shud v opt.wat r the pros nd cons?

Can you guys suggest a good laptop with the following configuration:

i5
4 GB RAM (I'm not a hardcore gamer but play occasionally. In that case would 3 GB be enough?)
320/500 GB HDD
1 GB Graphics Card
A good quality webcam.

I'm willing to go upto 40-42k.

Also does anyone have any idea about how to avail a laptop thru an education loan? Does the bank give money after I purchase the laptop of my own money or does it finance it for me?

i have the same confusion too
do bank avail loan before or after buying the laptop and is there a limit on the amount?
