I bought it in August 2010. Performance is good, I'm watching HD movies on it, attached to a Plasma HD TV of 42". Battery life is about 3-4 hours on a single charge.

Heyy,
1). Can nybody tell me if Blu-Ray is really required.. I mean wid all the hype surrounding blu-ray disks..:lookround::lookround:
I hardly use the DVD ROM nowadays.. or shud I say never hv used it since last 1 & 1/2 yrs.. Since, I mostly download movies & songs from the internet.. IS BLU-RAY really required..???????

PLSSSSS RPLYYYYY Puys.. As based on ur replies, my decision of going for blu-ray will depend..:cheerio::cheerio:

2). Also, Is a 14 inch lappie really compact.. as compared to a 15.6 inch lappie..?? I hv been using a 15.6'' since the last 5 yrs.. & I'm at complete ease wid its size(tho I hv to admit it does feel a li'l bulkier at times).. Do v really hv to carry our lappie's wid us in an MBA course..??

Will a 14'' lappie be bettr for the rigours of an MBA course than a 15.6''er..??

I dont think there's any such requirement of blue rays wid we 'the normal users'. Even I've nt used dvd drive except for formatting.
Yeah 14'' is quite a compact one but then it depends. You'd never face pblm handling a 15'' if u've been using one for some tym.But It's gud if a new user buys a 14''.(i recommend my near-dears to do d same;just for d sake of compactness).

ps-->Abuv are personal opinions.

Puys want to buy a laptop soon and I was checking various models and configuration and than got stuck at Dell xps and Vaio E series model ! My budget is 50k.

VPCEB46FG : E Series : VAIO Laptop & Computer : Sony India

Here is the sony vaio E series model which i liked and want to buy ! puys please check out and tell me is any other model of dell or any other company better than this in same range ?

Also, which company to go for??

Personally speaking, I lyk DELL.. for its superior configurations..(not jus the customisablity thing).. Also, I hv seen ppl nowadays mostly opting for the "SONY VAIO" Range also.. What is the logic behind dat..??
It is way to expensive for the same set of features dat a DELL wud provide..:thumbsup:

Personally, I have an IBM thinkpad whch is serving me well for the last 7 years!! So I think IBM had the best laptops in the world..hopefully Lenovo maintains the reliability (Check out the Lenovo's Thinkpad..not the Ideapad)
Judging by my friends experiences, I think Dell is the best of the current lot coz it offers a wide variety of customizations, good price point(its much cheaper than a Thinkpad nowadays) and decent after sales service.

Ok lemme give you my input because I've been looking for a laptop too....

Going by your configuration, you need it for gaming I'd presume. The E series is good for that. It has the ATI MOBILITY RADEON 5650 1 Gb graphics memory and I've seen it play games like Mafia 2 and Dirt with relative ease. a good 15.6" screen is welcome as well. Overall a good laptop

The only way you'd combat this configuration is with a customized Dell XPS 14 or 15...You'll have to order it online if you customize it. Else certain ready made configurations are available. The Studio XPS 16 is also a decent chocie but priced slightly higher.

The Lenovo Y560 would come up to 50k and is a good gaming laptop as well.

In the Vaio series, the E series that you have chosen is the one I would recommend.

The downside of Dell is that sometimes parts are faulty and things might happen. Always maintain a backup when using a Dell but their warranty covers it and the servicing/repairing is free and super-fast in metros.

Not exactly....It would be costlier than an un-customized Dell but as soon as you begin customizing it, it comes quite near the Vaio price...May still be cheaper because that is exactly what Dell's business model is all about but a readymade Vaio has good looks, is reliable and a good option to buy because currently in India they are one of the only companies to provide cost-effective high performance laptops.

I know we still have miles to go in terms of performance. But at least they don't consider 512 Mb RAM to be optimal...They often put 2Gb and can upgrade it to 4/6/8 in cases.

The dell looks like a tin can and a Vaio like an F-22 in terms of looks when you don't normally go for the Black versions....

Just my thought..

Actually I am not looking for gaming mainly. I just want best configuration Laptop which has latest features. I liked the dell xps series but I want i5 processor and in xps its above 50k. About Lenovo I dont know much but i checked the y560 you suggested and i find it good but again the i5 processor is above 50k. Vaio is a brand name and this attracts me and the model i liked has all the features and is in my budget but only problem is its 15.6" and i want a 14" screen because its easy to handle it. Can we customize in VAIO too ?

14'' will have better battery back up when compared to 15''

hp dmz1 3014au is awesome. it has around 10 hrs battery backup,1080p streaming and playback, good for light gaming etc. for only 24-25000/. new amd fusion platform rocks big time.

Blu-Ray isnt required unless you want to watch BluRay movies...which are as costly as buying diamonds...

I would still suggest getting a 15.6" laptop because an integral part of spending time in an MBA course is watching movies in your free time. A 15.6" would be easy on your eyes as well as you dont need to keep squinting into your laptop to see really tiny text.

Also bags are normally made for 15" laptops so there should not be a problem in finding a carry bag for it....Your old lappie feels bulky because very simply it is bulky! Laptops are light and slim now and a 15" would weigh in at 3 odd kgs.

hey i am thinking of buying a laptop having LINUX operating sytem preinstalled.
then i will install a pirated copy of windows in my laptop.
it will save me easy 6000 bucks.
will there be any problem?

Windows comes pre-installed on laptops by the way.....and laptops start from like 20k onwards....

Why o' why do people want fake Windows on laptops....PC's are understandable since they are often assembled...Your choice though....Sorry for this post but I have no suggestions here....

With every genuine windows u purchase, u gt a lifetime Security Essentials free with it. dt saves money on ur antivirus .n originl antivirus neday wud protect ur windows frm geting infected by viruses to a gud extent.
Secondly the cost differnce between a linux machine and a pre loaded windows machine is not that grt. its hardly 3000 bucks.

buy orignl windows n u l definitly gt d benifits . rest is the call on u

Seconded.. hp pavillion dm1 looks like the best option available out there in the sub 30k rane.. if no games is okay, it should be a good notebook to own..
Its pretty fast than the atom netbooks and seems to be capable of running cooler than most bigger laptops....
