Given a choice between acer 4740 and the compaq mentioned above, which would you recommend?
After seeing the configuration of both the models i can suggest you to go for acer 4740. The configuration of both seems fairly same with a little difference. This suggestion is based on my own personal use of both of Acer and Compaq. I found Acer's performance better than Compaq's.
P.S. - A suggestion if you can, then go for a sony viao e series. I got one recently and its performance rules both of the above models.

Actually, I want a laptop which can be used for all purposes including gaming and entertainment. Best wud be either Toshiba or Dell and do ask for add on Graphics card (1GB); dt will help u to play games and watch DVD like video. Recent product of dell has this config ==> 4 GB Ram & 500 GB HDD+ Graph.C.

what is "purpose: Undefined" ? ... Here no one is forcing u to select a specialization in an MBA programme , u don't have to specify in detail what ur going to do with your laptop from day u buy to the day you throw.
Here u just have to specify what is ur purpose in short like "I want laptop to play games","I want it for Office purposes", "I want it for Net browsing"..like that
Purpose is reason that has driven u to buy laptop and its far easier to explain than "Why MBA?"..
Now this info play imp role for a person suggesting u the brand n config and ultimately to urself.
So first decide ur purpose than decide how much imp that purpose is and based on that fix ur budget and based on budget and purpose ppl will suggest u brands and models.

1. Dell Studio with i5 processor and 1gb graphics card ( will come in handy for any purpose and will cost around 45-48k) I personally found i5 better than i7 in the sense that it generates lesser heat and the battery lasts somewaht longer.Morever for every activity that an MBA student wants to do on a lappy ..even an i3 will suffice :) 2. Sony Vaio - killer looks and performance is also good...though u may have to compromise on the configuration that u may get on Dell at the same price.I have friends who have a vaio and it works very well..no problems whatsoever as of now.

I would recommend Lennovo.HP is slowly losing out in the race of good laptops.Main problems associated are weight,Lesser battery time and Heat problems are common too.(Even in the pavillion series)

Dell Inspiron for anything less than 40k....U can get a pretty good configuration at 37-38k(with 1gb gfx and 4gb ram )....my roomates are using it...and it works well (slightly better than Studio in terms of battery life and is also ligher than studio). Vaio wont be available with a good cnfig at

Laptop mini will serve all the purposes of any MBA student except for gaming.Its pretty easy to carry to college and if u r considering to buy one look out for Dell and Vaio . Both of them are good in terms of working as well as style.
