Probably the trial period (30 days) has expired. You need to buy the key from Microsoft to avail services of MS Office.

actually i just got my lappie last day and its pre installed
i have a microsoft works cd bt cant find that unique id anywhere

Its nothing to worry about.It's same for all Dell lappies.
I had asked at customer care centre. They had told that its a hidden partition kept for system restore,backup,recovery etc .
So its absolutely normal
I am thinking of buying a laptop. I am not into gaming but the mba study stuff (ppt, one note etc) and home theatre (good audio and video, editing software) is a must. Also I read a lot on comp so it should be comfortable screen wise but not too heavy as I last had a dell inspiron 1100 and carried it to classes barely due to it. Since I am in no hurry and am willing to spend wht should I go for ? I am also thinking abt a mac but don't know abt it, would it be too much for my needs ? What shld be the alternative ? Thx.

as you mentioned that you do not need heavy computing machine i would recommend sony EB14 for you. it is a good system with 3 gb ram enough for your work and good hd display and output.. plus it would not cost much as well. it would cst u 37 000. if you want to buy an equivalent with mac it will cost you 1,09,000. you can decide on the rst.
since you said no heavy work my suggestionsi do not go for a lappy with graphics as you wont need them. go for i3 processor as it will suffice your graphic needs. also no need for 4 gb ram. 3 is more than enough.. concentrate on hdd space and hd output...

some1 just posted eb 14 config .. check it and by it i would say. u can also try out dell but if u need good entertainment then sony is better than dell

Go in for the dell 15R...Good Offer...However I would advice you to stretch the warrenty to
1) 1 yr. complete accidental damage Rs.800/= approx
2) 2 yr . complete accidental damage Rs.2500/= approx

Hey, a thing to note. Dell is now offering i3-350 processor on all lappies now (including inspiron) instead of i3-330 earlier.
A bit of a bonus in processor speed. I would most probably be going for the same lappy with 1 year complete cover. Let me know if you get any discounts on the price bro.
