nithin Sayshi i bought a dell inspiron 6000 yesterday (frm us not india) so i can answer some of ur queries
Nice lappy dude,
Well lemme know the final porice & the rebate coupon.
Also do not forget the mention the CONFIGURATION.
When r u receiving it in INDIA? & HOW?
Thanks a ton buddy for ur help..That clears most of my confusion regarding different configs. looks like i can choose the right lappy 4 me now.
BTW which model of inspiron did u buy ( i mean the system identifier which they give on the dell site ) n 4 how much ???
me too planning to get it from us..just a littil bit worried abt the warranty part
Thanks,
Sunil
hi i bought a dell inspiron 6000 yesterday (frm us not india) so i can answer some of ur queries, most of dell's lappy's dont come with a fdd u need to purchase it separately, so if u want a floppy drive u need to purchase a external fdd from them, u dont get a laptop with inbuilt fdd.
video card or grafix card is only reqd if ur into heavy grafix and gaming. if u use ur lappy for word excel ppt etc the integrated intel grafix is more than enuf. so u dont have to worry abt video memory, i do a lot a gaming which is y i bought a 128mb ati x300 grafix card.
see 802.11 a,b and g transfer data at different speeds, b at 11Mbps, g and a at 54 Mbps, but a is at a diff frequency(5ghz) now the 2100 card only supports b, 2200 supports both b and g but not a. 1450 supports all three, so it makes sense to go in for either 2200 or 1450 wireless card.
sandman_sd SaysDepend on ur needs.A laptop defintely looks cooler but that doesnt mean it is faster for running hardcore gaming.Tell me ur needs. Are u a gamer? Or just basic applications and also the config that u need.Maybe then someone on this thread can help u better
hi,
im not a gamer, not into games and stuff.
would be needing it for basic stuff, with the specified configuration.
also i guess more imp than the cool thing are things like convenience, the service ill get and longevity and value for money.
wat do u guys suggest???
thnx
hi
i am getting an ibm r51 with intel pentium m processor 1.5 gzs(715), 256, 40gb, dvd combo, windows xp pro, 3 years warranty at 57000. i stay in calcutta.
harish.
hey nithin,
u got a really good deal but wat abt the warranty part. how many yrs warranty does it have plus can the warranty be used in india?
D.M.
nithin Sayswell coupons are basically codes which when entered in the dell US checkout page gives u hefty discounts. dell periodically realeases such coupons say 2 or 3 every month, abt were u can find these coupons, just check out my earlier post, however these coupons are valid only in the us and it can only be used for online purchases at www.dell.com .
inspiron 6000 is a very good deal....any idea if i can get any discount coupons for Sony vaio....i've selected one model which is of 1488$ and my budget can stretch upto 1300$
....@nithin...use ur laptop for a while n tell us if it heats up or anything....coz mah frnd had purchased a dell 600m lappie and he was complaining abt the heat it generated
@nithin...did u consider sony vaio as well???how is it vis a vis dell ka lappie....coz these are the only two notebooks i'm considering...IBM is way above my budget
chk this link out...its an AMD ferrari laptop..totally awesome....
anyone has AMD in their laptop???.....how is it vis a vis pentium M??????
coupons are available on several sites like
www.deals2buy.com
www.notebookrereview.com/dellcoupon.asp
www.deals2buy.com
[url=http://notebookforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=104 just google for dell coupons
@maddevil all dell lappy's come standard with 1yr warranty and 1yr free tech support, i had to pay 129 $(included in the final price) extra for a 3year warranty, i just have to fill a form and transfer my name to the asia pacific database frm the usa 1 and my warranty will be valid in india, spore, hkong etc.
Hey dude could u give me a few more details about the whole warranty thing .I am buying from the US and wanna get it in the discount period.
I was discussing with my friend about the LAPTOP. These are the general perceptions
DELL - Cheap compared to other brands. Comparitively heavier. No (or very few) Service centers in India and hence, think twice
TOSHIBA - Very sleeky and light weight. But has battery problems and not robust.
IBM - Comparitively on the high priced. Robust usage. Performing better
COMPAQ - Robust usage allowed. Does not have higher end models (will be labeled as HP)
HP - no comments (I dunno)
I don have personal experience to quantify the above views. I posted it here for our guidance. If sb finds anything digressing, pls update.
Cheers...

Dell actually has a few service centers in india and actually has a customer service cell.Though it aint the best buy it is the most affordable.
Toshiba service is bad and beware of going to non authorised people since the spares are difficult to obtain.
The best service and quality is IBM if u can afford it that is.
Well personally i am going in for DELL since it is cheap and easily falls in my budget.
can anyone please tell me as to why escatly a laptop is needed in a bschool. i know this question is funny, but really i don't know
@ freaky guy: Dell infact does have quite a few service centres in india, atleast i know of 1 in blore, thats were we get our office lappy's fixed.
Well could u tell me where this service center is.My choice is now fixed on DELL.and i shift to bangalore soon and might need a place for certified repairs once i get there.

well sandman, i had contacted Dell on its toll free no. 1600444026, they said that Dell doesnot have any showroom or any kind of shops. the dealings r mainly done online or thru this no. once u purchase the lappy u will get a similar toll free no for servicing ur lappy. u just have call them up, the technician will arrive at ur place and fix the problem
BTW which model r u planning to buy? and r u buying it from India or abroad?
D.M.

Hi everyone...
me posting on this thread for the first time...too many ppl here talking of ibm, dell and sony...
i am a duffer when it comes to computers, but since i gotta have a lappy from june at mica, i would like to know what u gyaanis think of Zenith...
Their best Director model with a webcam comes at 56K only...thats a cool 20K bucks less than IBM...
However, could someone pool in his/her gyaan about Zenith's quality, after-sales service etc...
Plz chip in...
Me 2 in for some heavy duty gaming so need 128mb RAM.PLus u get i needed a pretty good screen and the 17" 9300model was way over my budget. For someone who said ZENITH a piece of advice , run as far as u can from the piece.Dnt sacrifice quality just coz u get a attached cam to the lappie.Unless ur a hardcore cam user u dont even need it.So shell out a few bucks more for some decent build quality.
nithin Saysdood that isnt 1419 dollars, the price is in pounds!!! 1419 x 82 =Rs...... u do the math!!! the config is gr8 but the price tag is in six figures.
sorry for that . gosh i have to put on my head lights.
