hi puys, does anyone have any info on the no. of questions in xat 2011. last year's paper with 104 questions was a BIT doable but papers of yesteryears(07, 06 and earlier) were virtually undoable what with an excess of 130 questions. If there ARE so many questions, then does the cut off shoot up proportionally( i mean is it still 1/3 of 140)??
Dude,
Even if there are 130 ques or 150, will you just solve 1/3 rd and leave the rest even if you have time. No one can predict what would be the no of ques and even if one can, we should not blindly believe him. If suppose XAT this year turns out very easy like all other exams, what will you do - maximize score or solve 1/3 and leave the rest. Paper being difficult or easy is for all and cut offs would shoot up or come down accordingly. Try and maximize your own score because you never know how much your neighbor has attempted/going to get..
P.S - For all others who are predicting the no of ques and level, it has become very obvious from previous papers that you can never go in with last years cut off in mind.. Just go with a cool head and concentrate maximizing your own score..:cheerio:
Insti specific queries should be asked on that specific thread.. Anyways, GIM has changed its criteria last year. last year they gave profile based calls na d most probably sectional cut waas not there. But they actually give no clarification on how they proceed, so dont worry abt anything and just give ur best shot with a view to atleast get 60 %tile in each section (If you are specifically trying for GIM) else if your are trying for XIMB or so you need to have atleast 90 tile in each section.
Last yr : GIM had profile based calls and the minimum percentile was 85%ile in XAT. The year before that, we had 60% sectionals and 93% overall cutoff in XAT.
The number of applicants actually determine all these factors. So it it tough to assume what might be the criteria for this year.
But my personal take(It's just my opinion, and I might be right or wrong) is that we might continue with the profile based system again. Only time will tell us this.
And as far as XIMB is concerned, sectionals in the range of 80%ile and above should be okish to fetch you a call, with a good overall score.
For the essay, for a given topic, should you write the essay in support of the topic only or is it possible to make a counter argument in the essay? Im assuming if its essay one should write according to the topic given and not try to refute it like in a GD.

If you have got sound reasoning to support your stand.... I don`t think so that refuting the topic will create any problem...rather it`ll be positive as i`ll be different..
*** To all those who are yet to receive their admit card for XAT ***
Well guys....there is a bad news. I called up XAT office today and was informed that they received my XLRI application form but not the XAT form Hence, my admit card wasn't uploaded. They asked me to send a fax to them stating that I'd sent my application form to them and as a proof, they asked me to attach the receipt of the courier through which I'd sent my form.
So, guys instead of wasting ur time in trying to contact them, do what I have done. Also, when faxing, do mention ur XAT ID, XAT Bulletin No (which is on the XAT bulletin), XLRI Form No. (on the XLRI prospectus) and hope for the best.
My XAT chances are as good as over, I've lost Rs. 5000 (XAT + XLRI + GIM + XIMB) I hope u guys don't suffer the same fate.
'When I become aware of the pain in my injured leg, it begins to hurt and the pain becomes so excruciating that I often loose control over my senses.' 5. In the above passage, 'excruciating' refers to: A. Suddenness of the pain B. Objectivity of the pain C. Longevity of the pain D. None. of the above
what's the answer to the 2 questions?
I'd go with D in no. 4 and 5. in 5, answer would be degree of the pain, I suppose. And in 4, it just seemed like the narrator isn't doing any of the options mentioned, i.e. not rambling(discursive), not describing any real features(not sure about this option), and definitely not literal. In case the option is indeed D for q.4, what is this style of writing called?

'In this place flowed a river. A town came up by its banks sometime. And today there is a concrete road of the metropolitan city. When I bend down and place my ears on the road, I can still hear the splashing of the water flowing underneath.' The passage above is: A. Literal B. Discursive C. Descriptive D.none of the above
option B. i think as Discursive also means passing from one topic to another, usually in an unmethodical way.

***To ALL those whose Admit cards are not uploaded yet ******** Good NEWS.....! I called up the student helpline and fortunately someone picked up....! He informed me that around 600-700 candidates' admit cards were not uploaded and so they are trying to allocate them a test centre....All you need to do is keep trying the no. 18001021123 and get the test centre from them.... they would then ask you to take the below 3 documents with you: 1. Two passport size photographs 2. One photo identity 3. One copy of XAT PP form /PA form. I just followed the advice of Ranavishal and I called them up. They acknowledged that a lot of students were facing problems. They gave me a test centre and asked me to go there on 31 Dec sharp at 11 am with the documents as specified by Ranavishal. So I would suggest....please keep trying their numbers.

After a long long wait i got my centre. Thank god. ' Dude u rock'......XAT here i come
I just called them and they have allotted me a place to collect duplicate Admit Card. But they didn't say anything about the same place being the test center !!? I forgot to ask them one question that is it mandatory to collect it myself or is it possible that someone else from my family can collect it on my behalf with the valid photo ID? Anyone having any idea about this one?
A small querry... There is progressive negative marking in XAT. Is it progressive for each section or is it that once we get the initial 5 or 6 wrong(in any section, which are of -1/4 marks) , then for every subsequent wrong question(in any section) 1/2 mark would be deducted ?
