[2004] Xquizzette - Post your XLRI queries here

hi,

I am Jayaram ... i made it to the interviews and got kicked out last year ! I was left to blame my interview timing(last day @ chennai in the last slot at 7)...I did wonder if it was the only thing that left me out .... Now I have some 8 months of WXp in CTS ... XL has called me again for BM(with as small as 95 percentile) .... Please enlighten me on my chances.

I dont have solid splits ( 96/88/82 in QA/VA/GK) ... I am just fanbcying my chances this time ... I have two queries ....

1. How many xperianced dudes make it to XL every year .
2. Will my 8 months Xperiance make any difference to being a fresher.

Kindly squeeze out some time to answer my Queries.

Cheers

JK

Most of u guys who have calls shud have 95 + in quants and 87 + in verbal .... GK has been ignored this time.. I know people with 45 percentile in GK, but still have managed a call. Do we have any exceptions... who had missed out on this case. cheers

Keep urself updated abt things happening in the biz world...too many things happening these days...reliance...attrition in bpo, india vs china,HLL vs P&G;,mergers and acquisitions, corporate social responsibility wrt to tsunami, retail boom in india etc(this is not an indicative list...nor an exhaustive one)

read magazines like Business Today, BusinessWorld etc.....if u want sector wise analysis u can go thru the web versions of economic times (news by industry) or business standard or indiainfoline...

For the interview, be clear as to why you want to do an MBA and how does your undergraduate study match with ur MBA .Irrespective of whether ur a fresher or an exp. grad. the interviewer would try to understand your motivation for pursuing an MBA.

If you have applied to the HR course at XL, you need to explain why you want to do HR and what excites you about it. If you hav applied for BM programme, then you might be asked whether you have thought ahead about your specialisation.

Work Experience, helpful or not?The answer in one word, is yes. Having any kind of work experience in organizations, NGOs, social sector is useful. It implies that you have an understanding of the 'real world' and have insights into group dynamics and what motivates people.

If you do not have work experience, then highlight your extra-curricular work at college. That would also serve the purpose.

XLRI typically likes the "nice", helpful kind of people....the interviewers would seek to understand your values (cut-throat, stop-at-nothing,aggro types will be rejected most of the time 😃 )

Cheers,
priyabrat

P.S: really like the new look of the forum...looks pretty neat....
