Ur help needed reg XAT - quant section, my prep - enrolled for an IMS course - took their SIM XAT - and other XAT sample papers, - found the quant part very tough - to me it looked like a couple of gears above CAT quants, - topics like - string theory, matrices & determinants, P&C;, - questions are based on definitions given at the start of the prob and foll by 10probs - so if there are 6caselets - 60probs - prob in 40 min can attend only 2 caselets - so end up att only 15 to 18 probs - at this rate I would end up nowhere - any shortcuts avail to clear them.

Last year the XAT Quant section was quite easy as compared to the previous years. But by the sounds of it your SIM XAT was probably modelled on the paper prior to 2004. Cut off for the quant section in that paper was quite low- single digit perhaps. So even if you ended up attempting 15-20 with a good accuracy you could clear the cutoff.

Hi Frnds for the batch of 2006 the percentage of people with wrk exp in XLRI is quite high. I wd peg the no somewhere close to 50%.Which is a considerable increase over last yr. But my exp tells me this kindda info does not really make any diff in the end. bcos no matter on which side u fall u cant change it. so its better to focus on the test and try to make the best of the available oppotunity.
can you let me know what is the percentage of ppl with work ex in your batch...does XL give a lotta importance to Work ex

Official Data for Batch of 2006 :
BM - 60% with work ex PMIR - 40% with work ex
However, batch of 2005 had far less no. of ppl with work ex. So as prithvi said, dont bother yourself with the "trends" n all. Just give ur best shot at XAT n wait for interview call. :)

The popular perception about XLRI is that the PMIR placements are spectacular while BM prospects aren't so hot. Can you shed some light on this?
XL is the best inst. for PM/IR....no doubts abt that...but BM placemnts r equally good....also the no. of seats in BM r twice the no. of seats in IR..hence for IR's the companies/students ratio is higher...but again the trade-off betwn specialising in IR and having the freedom to choose ur specialisation after 1 yr....to get an idea of companies that visit XL u can chk out this yrs. summers thread...

Can you please tell about the questions asked to you ppl in the interview. do they ask questions perttaining to job profile. if yes what are the questions like for a s/w engineer having about 7 months work-ex? aprt from ques on work ex adn in general whay MBA what other type of ques are commonly asked..............it wud be all the more better if you can give a list of FAQs !!! 😃

For Finance specialization u must know the basic terminology, u shud know something bout budget, u shud know something bout stock mkts, u shud know sumthing out forex reserves and the hot topic whether it shud b used for infrastrucure nd so on. the knowledge of these things simply show the evaluators ur interest in Finance. BOL. we are in same boat. Me too got a call and till now hoping to do in Fin. Wish me ATB 2.:)
