Hi,
I kept checking the app login from friday to monday. Finally it appeared on Monday evening. Are you awaiting a result? ATB!
Strange !!! :nervous:With GMAT 770, 3 yrs wrk ex, Decent EC, community service you got DING everywhere else !! How come ???? :/
Hi world_not_enuf,
I guess I got the DING everywhere else was because Marshall was my only realistic school 8-) Rest were: 3 in top 5, and 2 in top 10. These schools are happy to see a 750+ GMAT, nothing more!
plus I was 23 when I interviewed with these schools...not a very MBA friendly age in this part of the world.
Also, i think I applied in a hurry due to personal reasons. I would like to advise you to not apply in a hurry, and take atleast 5-6 months time writing and re writing essays, as they are the most imp part of any application!! That said, I wonder why we dont write excerpts of our essays as a part of our profile 8-) All the Best!!

Whatever u wrote is cent percent true ... But, I still feel that this profile ( leave apart the essays for now) is a terific showcase of your potential .. And I feel .. you still seem to be in big hurry as reflected in your willingness to accept USC .. I reckon it would be worthwhile for you to wait for another year .. work on your essays ..and strive for top league schools ... For an int'l applicant, USC would not be an ideal choice under teh present circumstances, especially when he/she is capable of securing a better seat .. Isn't it??

I totally agree with this. You have very very strong chances to crack a top B school. One of my question: How is USC wrt placements of international students. I was disappointed to see that USC website has placement reports only till year 2004. People in US or LA if you can throw light on this, wud be good for me to take my decision.
Is it worth going to USC, spending close to $130K for an international student. How is the scene for funding in second year.

Being an int'l applicant is a curse in itself as far as US B schools are concerned ( here too being an Indian ) .. but if you already have an offer in hand and placement is the sole criteria for you to decide on acceptance or if you are really dreaming high ... then be ready to hear some unfavorable news .. Otherwise the school must be worthwhile to join .. no doubt whatsoever on that ! We all are aware of the excellent standards of education followed in US ๐

Hi dreaming_high,
Why do you say that USC has placement reports only till 2004? I hope you have read this: http://www.marshall.usc.edu/assets/028/7860.pdf Or, are u referring to a more detailed report? I know that the brand name of USC is not great nationally or internationally. However, in Southern California or SoCal (San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange County), its HUGE! I have talked to top honchos in companies in LA, who are Marshall Alumni. They vouch for the network. Better than Wharton SoCal club some would say. Rest of the world: not so great. So, take it up only if you dont mind living in SoCal for a while after ur MBA. It has the best climate USA can offertrust me! I met a current student who chose Marshall over Haas because she intends to stay in LA after the MBA. Another point to consider would be ur vertical: Marshall is not too finance friendly. Finance guys should def head to the east according to me. Marshall has some attractive industries: media, entertainment, fashion that are unique to very few schools. Abt international students: Lets face it: H1B is a struggle everywhere. I know of ppl in Wharton struggling for sponsorship. Whether it is worth spending 130K on quality education is something you have to decide based on your limitations and aspirations. I would prefer investing in an MBA over investing in stocks J I know there is some funding in 2nd year, based on 1st year performances. Lemme know if you need any more insights!! Do you have an admit too? Cheers!
HI Shweta as of now yes, i am planning to join Marshall. I have admit for Indiana, Kelley too. Now just waiting for admission packets from both the schools might have to rethink only if IU gives very good schol, which is not so likely in round 2.
By the way, I was in San Francisco and LA around 2 years back. I really liked the place and yes weather there is one of the best ones in US. and I would definitely like to stay around LA after MBA.
First of all, a big congrats to all of you who got the admit...now i have quite a few (crazy) questions, seem to bothering only me!!!
I applied in the R2. GMAT 730, 2.5 yrs at SAP labs, EC: very good, essays very good.
My appln status indicates 'incomplete' ever since then though they hv received all documents. everytime i write to them, they say we'll tell u if there is a problem wid ur file... it takes a while to process everything!
The results are out since 28th march and i havent seen the change of status. I again wrote to the school and they say tht the decision notification is ongoing.
Anyone facing this very issue???? Please help... its getting quite frustrating u know...
@Venkat: U said u have an interview call 10th april... which round did u apply in??
I really hope someone can answer these questions...
Hi Divya, I applied in R2. I got interview call on 31st March. Don't worry ..they don't update the status properly my application status still shows incomplete:) I also felt quite frustrated till i received the call.. My profile looks quite similar to urs..730/5yrs IT/Good acads.. Be an optimist..all the best
Well, the main reason 4 that, according to me, is this: Marshall is quite an expensive school. Plus living in LA (although it has its own advantages;) ) is not cheap by any standard. Historically, the aid scenario at Marshall has not been very good, but they have improved it a lot over the years. Most applicants dont know this and still think of USC as an expensive school.
I asked my interviewer the same question (not abt indians specifically but international) n she said the same thing. In her opinion, the costs go somewhere near to the top 10 school and the school's rank is 21th. That may act as a deterrrent. Which I found quite true.
All said and done, I think more ppl will think of it nxt yr as this yrs aid has been pretty good. Its a great place with a wonderfully diverse career opportunities. so for a person like me, I can still experience those different things and define what exactly suits me better.
a bit too long, but Hope this helps! and as for the number of ppl joining , i think the latest count is 4!
Best,
dreaming_high Says
Any reasons why quite less number of Indians applying to USC (as perceived from PG). Also how many admitted are planning to join?
Really do hope that u join USC. The great weather can be enjoyed better in the company of good friends!
What r u planning to major in?
