And the fact is that I am an "IT wala" guy
So now can you please suggest me some suitable optionals as I am highly confused :-(
Good to see a no. of IT people aspiring for the civil services,it reflects change.Well,coming to your query-I can only suggest you based on heuristics and there is no full proof binary logic behind it. 😃 Go through the syllabus of the list of subjects that i will list down,look for availability of study materials and last but not the least your curiosity and interest factor.Look for subjects with a FUZZY transition and avoid sharp transitions while reaching the decision node(your optional)
Geography,Public administration,Sociology,Anthropology,Physics,Maths,Political science and international relations.One more thing,there are certain combinations that you are not allowed to take eg. pub ad and pol science;sociology and anthropology.Do not go for subjects such as economics and history as you may not be able to cover the syllabus with a limit on the availability of time.I hope that suffices.

Start reading the HINDU,YOJANA and KURUKSHETRA.Apart from that,just focus on your MBA. :)
The mains pattern is on the anvil of change.So,you needn't worry about optional as of now.

Instead of PD,go for yojana and kurukshetra magazines of govt. of india(department of publication),it will be more useful coupled with the HINDU newspaper.
