Dear All, I am a serious civil servant aspirant and very soon will be starting the preparations for it. But i have a one query. Can you please let me know about the medical requirements (especially of EYESIGHT requirements) for IAS .Actually my eyesight is bit week and i am suffering from a corneal disease , but using special type of contact lenses(specifically for this disease) i can see clearly without any problem. The only problem is that vision cannot be corrected using spectacles....so can you please help me out ,its a request , to let me know about the minimum standards required for eyesight....i am working in a telecom industry presently ,but my ultimate aim is to crack IAS..so firstly i need to get sure that physically i am eligible or not...because i dont want that my 1 year of dedicated prepartion go in vain ....Looking forward for a reply. Thanks in advance.
Hi Abhi!
I am directing your query to an online link of 'Gazette of India Extraordinary' that may relieve you and your deep concern.
All 24 cadres of services (Civils) are divided into 2 types: Technical Services and Non-technical services.
Why is this important? Because medical standards for both types of services vary (though not to much extent.) Non-technical services relax medical requirements (eyesight, in your case).
May God bless you, and grant you your heart's desire.
He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. "

Do remember to take prints of these documents (names of multiple eye-tests, visual eligibility charts, and other relevant clauses mentioned) and consult your opthalmo. right away!
Also, ask him/her if your myopia/hypermetropia is "pathological" (degenerative in time.)
Once he/she gives you a clean chit, you will gather joyous strength and muster self-confidence to prepare with full concentration. When that happens, leave no stone unturned (wrong English) and get down to an indomitable preparation.

Absolutely bro, one thing i would like to mention here is that i am so much concerned because i had faced one rejection already from a PSU "Maharatna Company" operating in power sector (and giving best package among all PSU's in India) jst because i was unable to comply by -4.0 D limit prescribed...
Life came to a standstill that time....but i mustured enough courage to move ahead and got a job in telecom sector...but dream of becoming IAS is not letting me concentrate on any other job because i know my potenital but my destiny had ditched me earlier.
So i was bit concerned about civil services medical norms..
Now i have a clear picture of norms..
I had already consulted many opthalms but the problem is i am having a corneal disease.
and there is no mention in these norms about such disease..
So still there is a dilemma whether i would comply by norms or not....
But as far as "Pathological" myopia is concerned, i am hopeful that my myopia is not pathological...
Rest all depends upon the further eye tests i will be undergoing .

Both eyes bro...contact lenses works very fine ....but the only problem is that spectacled vision is not proper...and that is what which is checked there in medical....

Hi Puys, Gonna Start my preparation for prelims 2013 .. Pls guide me puys.. Post Useful links and sites and let me know any strategy/ planning etc etc.. Ur advice will be very much appreciated.. Thanks in advance..
I have been using PG for more than two years now. Was really helpful in preparing for MBA entrances. Here is my query from a new account.
I know the there aren't any eligibility conditions that bar second divisioners from appearing for Civil Services Exams but what I really would like to know is it really possible for a general category student with second division in graduation and post graduation (both from Delhi University) to clear the interviews of UPSC. I ask of interviews only coz I have a knack of performing well in competitive exams with minimal preparation but I am really worried about taking the plunge into UPSC and not being able to clear the interviews owing to my below average acads.
@spartanx: You don't need to be a high profile. Pls do know that if you are standing in that interview room you certainly are capable. Acads will effect only if you are uncomfortable answering about it in interviews. If it wudve mattered then all IAS officers would have been from IIM, IITs...but they chose ppl for who they are as a person. What you need India's leader to be like imagine it.....They would want the same qualities in you. Look into every aspect of your soul. Inspect every element in your mind. And believe you can. Study hard. ATB.

Thanks for the revert.
Its just that I have faced the ire of B-Schools owing to my not so decents acads. Your words encourage me :)
