My pre score was hovering in between 190 and 205 according to various coaching centres. Cut-off might be more than this.

coaching classes r wrong my friend dont depend on them as per the key put up by them i was gettin 150-160 but here i m giving mains how come that happened ...

@jitendra.pandey Cut off was 209 afaik. I scored 65ish in GS and 150ish in aptitude.
@anup8380 Other one is anthropology and I cnanot even define it if somebody asked for it.
My Esaay went way better than I expected "Science and Mysticism"!! Expecting ~100ish. Content wise I think I did great but I could have definitely used better composition and flow for sure. Need writing practice.

@Tony24 Sup Buddy! GS paper 1 was refreshingly good, its great for the morale for people like us. It wasn't lengthy at all. Paper 2 was very lenghty though(Not for me, I just attempted stats and a couple of sub-questions, :D) but I could see it was lengthy.
Another thing I'd like to discuss is : How much do you write? People took as many as 5-6 supplementary sheets in paper 1 in GS but if you go strictly by wordlimit prescribed in the paper, the main sheet should suffice. I cannot help but think about the examiners psychology here, the guy is checking dozens of paper everyday and it must be tiring for him to read all the crap people write for a 5 marker or a 10 marker. I am kind of split because there was a question on MDR-TB in paper 1 in which I went just slightly over wordlimit but I could have easily wrote 10 pages on it! but when I talked to other people they go almost 2-3 times wordlimit on almost every question, and they were not newcomer like me but very serious candidates with one or more yoear of mains writing experience.

Even in todays Essay exam, I wrote like 900-950 words for 200 marks which seems fair to me as a 300word answer question carrys 100 marks. But some people had finished almost all of the sheet which means like 24 pages or ~2400-2500 words! Insane!
@lemmings thanks for this information. It means actually paper 2 betrayed me. I could have scored good marks in it but it was all my fault. I took it for granted and paid the price.
@lemmings 10% +/- with the word limit is ok but beyond that there's definitely deduction of marks.For Essay there's no word limit.All the best for ur optionals.

Presently working as a soft Engg. in an MNC ..
Is it practically possible to prepare & clear UPSC 2013 from now ..as if can manage to take out 6 hrs daily from my work schedule.
If so ..please throw some light on the preparation strategy..
Though I hv done some part earlier (say basics like NCERTs nd Lucent GK etc ) ..and I am confident about the CSAT 2nd paper ..but Genereal Studies & Mains are the concerns ..
