i m planning to do distance learning mba along with the preparation for civil services exam(attempt 2014)...
As far as i know Sikkim manipal university offers distance learning (they will give you DEGREE not DIPLOMA.)
But i Don't know about IGNOU..
i need guidance from puys that if it is fine to do distance learning mba as a back up plan.. and if yes then from which university...???

Buddy, i think IGNOU is better option in any case than SMU...
If there is no IGNOU center in your city, prefer your state government University for any distance course...be it MBA, MCom or MA.
And as a back up plan you should pursue masters in a subject which you are opting for your mains(just an opinion)
In worse case you can clear UGC NET exam after your Masters in that subject...
@[415193:lay_man] m from delhi.. so IGNOU centre won't be a problem.. But In Worst case as well i don't want to go in research or teaching thing in any discipline. its not my cup of tea.
and as my academic background is Engineering (Computers).. i don't think going for masters in any of the optional subjects(Pub ad and sociology) wud help me out.
So, i think i m left with MBA only.

unless from IGNOU...which have some value...
and after engineering i don't think you are eligible for MA as for masters in any subject you need that subject in you bachelor's degree...
Though, you will get admission in any private university in distance mode...
But i think i should pursue his/her distance education only and only from GOVERNMENT UNIVERSITY..as there is no tension of approvals and all..viz DEC/AICTE etc..
(Apart from getting distance education approval the university also needs to approve that particular degree which it is offering..sadly many students dont know this and private universities take advantage of this and do their business...)
I am victim of above thing...

@[355851:lemmings] Distance MBA does have job value but only 40 percent private companies give equal preference to regular MBA's and Distance MBA's. and if you do Distance MBA ..say from Sikkim Manipal University..then they offer you Degree rather than Diploma.
And all Public Sector Undtertakings (PSU) Companies like ISRO, NTPC, BHEL etc. give equal preference ....and jobs under PSU are good enough.
and I don't know about distance MA....

Puys, please someone throw some light on Commerce & Accountancy subject for mains. How is the difficulty level. I am a commerce grad and preparing for 2013 prelims. What optional subjects do commerce grads usually opt for?
