1) UPSC doesn't declare any official cut off
2) But i cleared CSAT 2011 with around 250/400 (95+155) which was calculated based on various institute keys, and have heard from others who cleared the exam with 200+(for general category)
3) I guess there was no sectional cut off last year, bcoz some of my friends were able to clear even with a score of 50 in GS, but to be on the safer side aim for atleast 80 in each paper
4) Paper pattern has changed in the last two years so focus on concept/understanding based study for prelims and concept+memory based learning for mains. atb
This thread is moving very slow. No concrete discussion is taking place. Many of its pages are full of useful information but by and large there shall be more and more discussion. Please discuuss about the abstract aspect of this exam. By this i mean to say that we should not concentrate only on cut off and short cuts. By Abstract i means to say the motivation which compels us to become a civil servant and the mental status of an aspirant. Motivation as we know is the super highway to learning. Please share interesting facts related to job profile of a civil servant which may become a motivating factor for its preparation. I want every one participating here in the discussion to pass this year's exam with flying colors.
Since it's my first post, it's not for giving guidance but taking one.
I have couple of queries.
1) Recently I have read UPSC pattern might change in the year 2013. How probable is that? Any idea?
2) Which institute's distance course is best? I was recommended Brilliant Tutorial by a few. Your take on that?
3) In the Mains, how's Pali the language, as one of the optionals? I'm a little dubious about Public Ad & History, or Public Ad & Pali. Looking for some enlightenment here as well. :lookround:
Thank you all!

Guys...i am also an aspirant looking forward to give CSAT in 2013 or 2014...kindly tell me how to start the preperation..i am totally confused as its a huge syllabus..i really want to crack it.
Puys...I am naive to UPSC. I intend to appear in UPSC in 2014 with Economics and Management as optional's. I have the following queries if the pattern of exam remains the same:-
1. Which Coaching Institute offers correspondence in these two subjects.
2. Books to refer
3. CAN a person with MBA/Engineering background appear for Indian Economic Services or ISS.
Puys,
It always has been one of my biggest desires to become an IAS officer, but for some reasons I never have had the courage and determination to start preparing for UPSC.
My queries are:
1. Is it possible to prepare and clear UPSC while doing MBA (I would most probably join TAPMI this year) by taking Management as one of the optional subjects?
2. Are there any disadvantages (or advantages) of becoming IAS at comparitively older age? (I am 24 right now)
Waiting eagerly for a reply.

1. Yes, it is possible. Infact there have been people from XL as well as A who have done it in past. 😃
2. There are no advantages or disadvantages as such. Earlier you become, more time you get to serve the people . 😃

Nice Info man ,Never thought that A and XL would leave sufficient enough time to prepare for AS .
I guess , at the end it boils down to one's determination to succeed amidst all the pressure , be it classes at A or a boring IT job .
If one is willing to grind it out then maybe ........

They aren't on PG ! 😃 So, would be tough to share contacts as they are not very close to me as well, just the acquaintances! Will still try to find out if i can share their email ids.

There is a disadvantage in joining the service in the later age as you lose out on seniority, which determines promotions!!
Cheers!
