@playa if i m not wrong u cant take Pub Admin & managmnt symultenuosly..palak ji can confirm

nahi le sakte......sister subjects hai.......

Cheers!

Thanks manishrao, Tony24.

Scenario ye hai ke other than Management, I do not know much about anything else. That is, I need to start from scratch. So, will it be good idea to take another elective with Management as one of the electives? I anyway have to further improve my knowledge in Management subjects as I will be taking up teaching as a career and will be teaching Management subjects to the students. If this is good option as one of the electives, which other optional should I take, in your opinion?

The other option I can think of is taking History and Geography, as I read chamberthegame's post somewhere and his logic seemed good to me, that these 2 subjects also make up a larger proportion of GS. So, it will help.

What's your take on this?

Need your suggestions.

can anyone tell me about the difficulty level of csat?
are questions tougher than cat questions? or is it a speed based test like cet, nmat etc.?
also if anyone can explain me the format of csat...

Thanks manishrao, Tony24.

You can definitely take Management as one optional. PubAD is not allowed with Management, so you have to choose one subject other than PubAd. This choice will depend on your interest in the subject. It is advisable but not necessary to choose a subject that helps you with your GS preparation. If you like the subjects then you can choose either History or Geography. There are other subjects as well. You can choose Political Science & International Relations, Anthropology, Sociology, Economics, etc.

Don't confuse CSAT with CAT or any other MBA entrance examinations. The formats are totally different. I had written a Beginner's Guide sometime back. Click here to read it.

Guys minimum how much marks are sufficient out of 2300 to surely get into IRS ? {According to previous trends}

reply atleast some1

Mr. Palak Mathur, I hope you can answer my question. As per my understanding, in the new format of the CSE, there is no Optional Subject for the Prelims, but there are 2 Optional Subjects with 2 papers each for the Mains. How should I approach the exam at various stages, viz. Preparation for Pre and Mains, and the Interview?

Thanks.

@Adam11 i think around 1250-1280 marks would fetch u an IRS Job...

Your understanding of the exam is correct. For details you can visit my blog. Link is in one of my previous post.

Approaches will vary from person to person. However, one thing that will be helpful is that you complete one of your optionals before Prelims and have some idea about your second optional. That is to say, Optional 1 should be finished before prelims and only its revision should be left for post-prelim days. And for optional 2, you must have done a general reading so that you know what you have to deal with. Arrange all the resources in one go and start preparing.

It's more of what you find interesting. History, Geography and Pub. Ad. are the most widely taken optionals (also because of their relevance to the later stage). Sociology is also popular because of its small syllabus but scoring in socio depends a lot on ur writing skill. Psychology is also another high scoring subject that u can consider. There may be other subjects which u may find suitable. So do a little bit of research and choose accordingly.

Though it is difficult to predict the cut off but if i remember correctly then around 1130/2300 was the cut off for the first list for the Gen category. I guess a score near 1200 would be enough.

For GS, I have posted a book list that I have followed on my blog. You can find the link in my previous post.

Optionals that you have selected are fine.

For Sociology, start with NCERT XI and XII books:-

1. Introducing_Sociology_Class_11
2. Sociology_Indian_Society_Class_12
3. Sociology_Social_Change_and_Development_in_India_for_Class_12
4. Understanding_Society_Sociology_Class_11

For PubAd buy Pub administration by Laxmikanth (TMH Publishers) or Polinaidy for starters. The other books that I followed are:-

Paper I
1. New Horizons for Pub Ad by Mohit Bhattacharaya
2. Administrative Thinkers by Prasad and Prasad

Paper II
1. Indian Administration by Rajni Goyal and Ramesh Arora
2. ARC reports
3. Indian Constitution by DD Basu
4. Indian Polity by Laxmikanth (TMH)

I found Mohit Bhattacharya very very boring so I had made its notes. Goyal and Arora are outdated but they are important. I wanted to read Nicholas Henry which is the kind of language that I like to read but due to lack of time couldn't cover it. You can certainly go for it.

Hi Pankaj,

Similar situation like mine.

If you do not like SSC job then do not go for it. First decide what exactly you want to do and what will be its backup if that plan doesn't succeed. I have no idea about job profile that you get after SSC-CGL, so will not comment on that. I will keep myself stick to UPSC CSE.

For UPSC CSE, I would suggest to start early to reap benefits. I have mentioned the booklist on my blog. Start with those. Since you are in a job, I do not think you will have enough time to read numerous newspapers and magazine. SO, just stick to any one newspaper. I have no inclination towards any particular one. It can be in your mother tongue as well. I used to follow ToI and had bought Current Affairs module from UPSC Mantra. Current Affairs module helped immensely in GS for Mains - Science and Tech related current news etc were covered fantastically. You can try ordering a Current affair module from some good institute as well. I have no knowledge about other institutes so will not be able to comment on any other institute.

I also used to follow UPSC portal and Indian Officer websites.

Try to complete one of your optional before Prelims and also by that time do a general reading of second optional so that you know what you are going to read post-prelims.

Get ready and just start the preparation. Ask me specific questions if you need proper guidance. What is your location?

Palak...u have a really nice blog

SSC CGL grp A is also a hard nut to crack yaar.
Dont take that lightly

1500 general grp A posts and 8 lakh junta
