I say quite the opposite. CSAT is better than the mug-vomit optional paper.
It is very basic & doable!
If anyone is finding it difficult, it is may be cause efforts were not put in that direction so far.
quant is easy, english passages, though many, are not lengthy & tedious, decision making dusnt have negative marking, reasoning is not very high level.
All basic, which all of us should be able to do well, with little effort of course.

scored a pathetic 70 odd in the GS paper and 160 odd in the 2nd paper
I am planning to attempt CSAT in 2012
can anyone tell me what is (are) the best source to prepare GS from?
And can anyone share any preparation strategies?
Is it required to enroll for a full time coaching or test series will suffice?


70+ 160 is a good score. u could have cleared it this time as well!
anyways, coaching is not required for GS of course. with a score of 70 u should be able to handle it on your own, and handle it well.
questions are getting very conceptual, with zero fact mugging requirement.
choose optionals that interest u. have them ready by the time you fill up the form for pre 2012. :)

My question is regarding UPSC. Can we give UPSC at the age of 28. I know that the age limit is 30 for general and also for other castes. What I want to know is, whether 28 is an appropriate age of attempting UPSC or would it be better if we start it a bit early like at 22. Also eager to know whether age factor affects it in any way?

of course u can take it at the age of 28. Shubhra saxena cleared it at 28 or 29 in her 2nd attempt!
when to appear is ur call. depending on the options available to u & ur preference. ya work experience does help u a lot...shapes u in a lot of spheres.
u can start preparing as early as u may want. when to appear & clear it most importantly is totally a personal choice!

a) Syllabus for prelims is available on internet and at numerous places. You can find it at upsc.gov.in. Else, I have put it on my blog as well:-

There are no sub-topics as such. UPSC has only defined the above syllabus only.

b) You can buy it from any book shop if they keep UPSC related material.

c) UPSCMantra is good.

hi bro..70/160- 230/400 is definitely not a bad score..i got 100/150- around 250 this time...most coaching institutes have declared 220 (general category) as expected cut off (refer indian officer forum or upsc portal if u don't believe me) ,so don't lose hope... i made the same mistake last year (2010), wasted time after i prelims and had just 2 and half months left when i knew i had cleared prelims... result- messed up mains and wasted 1 yr... so make the best out of this time...

prep strategy - depends on ur options (mine pub ad and psycho)... for GS chronicle, yojana, kurushetra, wizard, frontline, editorials from leading papers are all must but not sufficient...

coaching...again depends on options u choose and ur ability to comprehend new subjects..for gs test series will do...Gud luck..
