As per the news that I heard yesterday night, UPSC has restored the earlier scheme of examination atleast for this year:-)
So, this will give a ray of hope and happiness to the CSE applicants going to attempt this prestigious exam this year:-)

@deepak1139 no they didn't , they just removed the English part , removed restrictions on lang paper , no reverting back to the old pattern .

So does that mean that there is only one optional from this year itself.....Then why they are saying it will be helpful to the students preparing for the exams according to the earlier pattern??
P.S.- Though i am not appearing this year for the CSE but still can't resist myself from asking this query.:-)

its high time that UPSC makes up its mind already and come out with the final notification...haven't we all been hanging in the balance for far too long ???

I haven't been able to understand wholly, is the new pattern effective from this year onwards ?
I mean is there going to be only one optional from this year itself ?

@isha.mba ,@nehasharma89 :- there will be no change in prelims.
whatever the discussion going on is about mains exam. as you know that the new notification in parliament is rolled back so old pattern to be followed.
You people must concentrate on prelims if you doesn't made to clear it, there's no point of mains.!
Hi All, i am new to this forum and wishing to start my preparation for CS exam. I have 1 query, kindly anyone help me on that.
There are optional subjects list for CS Main Paper VI and Paper VII. Please guide me whether we have to select 2 different subjects from the list or both paper VI and VII are based on a single subject from the list? (I read an interview from PD, the girl had Public Administration and Sociology subjects, so confused about the number of subjects to choose).

CSE '13 is my first attempt. Like countless others, I haven't started studies yet.

I came across TMH books for Prelims y'day, 1000 bucks each. I wasn't ready to shell that kind of money, plus I wasn't sure which book to buy. For GS portion, I'm considering going through VI-X NCERT books (I have ebooks) as veterans tell me that is what it all ultimately comes down to.
For Paper II, I think I need to buy a book, reason being this is my first time. I feel confident in Paper II since I'm good at English and Maths (already cleared SSC CGL '12, got CSS-AIR 277).

My query is what else would I need, to cover the remaining GS in Paper I and which book I should buy for Paper II.

Thank You.

Hey guys, back on the thread! Interview went good. Since I'm planning to switch gears & go all thrash mode & because you guys will ask me to post again after mains, I'll give minute to minute details later. Questions were mostly personalised & came in bunches regarding each topic. Nothing unexpected.

@PlutoLady
For completing part 2 of application use opera browser but not IE or firefox. A few are facing problems with those. Most probably, you must have applied by now but just in case.

@y2snew,
@2013IsMine
Interview was quite satisfactory, considering my situation.

@sparklingaubade
Ignore my earlier reply. I thought you were asking about csm. For IFS, you can opt for mathematics & physics.

@manas222
I'm dont have an account in fb. We can connect here & if needed we can exchange email & contact no's later.

@Akhil.G
Yep, sure buddy. Count me in. It's always good to have friends accompanying on a long journey.

@madhu_7
Did you get the notes? I dont remember the names of those bookshops but can give you a rough idea about their location. Those guys would be knowing the staff names.

@srvsh
@ankmbaa
@prateek987
I'm so sorry for not replying to you guys. Your messages have gone down in the list & I was not well acquainted with the pagalguy format. If you need anything now, I'm there.
ankmbaa, I'll get back to you later.
srvsh, which bank did you get into?
prateek987, you've got to throw me something more than just casual addressing words buddy

@19rahul91
So, is it the pearson manual which I was talking about or a different book. How's it?

@nehaj1947
So, canara or ubi?
@madhu_7
@ratnasen
What happened in the second allotment. I'm sure you will get through. If not now, there's always a waitlist with guys like me rejecting their offers

@ratnasen
The problem with your strategy is that if we get stuck with reasoning or quants, we may not have sufficient time for other scoring papers.

@mario-spider
you miserly tension master, I'm not answering you on PG. Call me or move that bull dozer body & come down to my place.

@Platinum.Dukaan
Having way too much trouble for my comfort, over here with the site . What about relocating?
I'm trying to come up with a new drive/email that we can share. Presently busy collecting material for start-up. If you know a better method, where we can interact as well as share bulky material, let me know.

@nishphal
You can avail privilege leaves only in the second year. Stack them up as they can be carried
forward till you turn 60 or can be encashed. While attending interview, you will have to carry
a letter from your manager (technically HR zonal head but they'll never entertain you) which says that there is no problem if you attend interview & there are no outstanding dues. This is just procedural & you can talk to your manager personally & get it done. (I am sure you are smart enough to maintain healthy relations with superiors & can pull off a favor when needed. It's all about your way of dealing.)
PS: That ping addressal was just casual missy. I dont discriminate (either positively or negatively} based on race, religon, region, caste, creed or GENDER.

{@Platinum.Dukaan: do you think quoting the constitution time & again makes me sound dorky & nerdy?}

@kplight
How's everything going now buddy? Made your peace with the world, eh? This time around, I think I'll need your help. Having a hard time concentrating for long.
Dont you think preparing for prasar bharti creates a conflict of interest as far as exam date is
concerned?

@TRUE--WARRIOR welcome back to the thread.....
@TRUE--WARRIOR can we move to the discussion on topics???

definetly, as long as i dont have to type everything. I'm studying history.
@TRUE--WARRIOR is there much of a difference between the preparation for CSE and State PSC..what is your opinion..?

not much as far as prelims is concerned. By the way, which state are you talking about?. Mostly they differ in mains stage. Prelims is pretty much the same. You'll need a bit of state info & some current affairs for SPSC but can clear cutoff if you are strong in civils syllabus.
@TRUE--WARRIOR Thank you sir for your reply..
I am talking about UP PSC...
the following is their pattern...

stage 1 = prelims = 400 marks subjects = GS = part 1 and Eng/Maths/reasoning = part 2..
stage 2 = mains = two optionals ..two essays ..two gs papers...
stage 3 = interview

There you have it buddy. My previous reply holds good in this case.
I thought of applying for UP PSC last year, but since I had to come all the way down to UP for purchasing the application & the posts (class I and 2 combined) were only 100, I didn't apply. Let me know if a new notification comes out.
