@TRUE--WARRIOR@razeish01 bro is there a separate cut off in prelims for GS paper I and GS paper II or there is a combined cut off ?Please answer

forest service and civil service need same qualifications only?

Guys please read atleast a few recent pages of the thread. All the aspects would have been discussed. Unfortunately civils threads are not like ibps, cat, ssc etc. We hardly have half a dozen regulars. It is not possible to carry same discussion again & again.
The topics which are the need of the hour will definitely be discussed - eg: when notification comes out, we discuss strategy & after prelims, we'll obviously discuss the paper. So, please check whether the question has been asked previously on thread or not.

19rahul91
pearsons or tata mc graw hills + new vishal's current affairs 2013 + new vishal's review of economic survey

Debasis070
OMG man. This is the basis of our preparation strategy on this tread. If there was a separate cutoff, not one new aspirant would have applied for the test this year, atleast not those who started studies in march 2013.

@maneeshp
any graduation will do for civils but Ifs has separate qualifications like botany, forestry, agriculture etc. However all engineers are eligible

Hifriends please suggest me a good online tutorial.i checked two websites--indiancivils.com--iasgeneralstudies.com--or any other (if u know better) i do understand that mainly i need to study on my own, but to schedule myself and to read the right stuff, i want to join a online tutorials.as i am studying for MBA, i need to join an online course only.

These may not be of great use. Never heard anyone telling that they cracked civils due to an online tutorial. I checked some websites previously & none of them looked attractive. Even their homepages don't have much to advertise. It's just a bunch of prelims or mains pass guys & one or two IRS selections.
If they offer a material, getting that would be a better option. Material can be used any no of times especially when needed & during exams (even next year if not lucky this time) but tutorial teachings will be forgotten in a few days.

It wud be really great help is somebody address my previous query.Also i am planning to take Management for the mains, how good it is to score using the knowledge of PGDM course of XLRI?
@priyadarsh said:
@ankmbaa thank you very much buddy. by mentioning the college, i wanted to know the expert's view on the curriculum followed in PGDM of XLRI, not the reputation's help.Curriculum matches with the syllabus of UPSC management, i just want to know how deep the exam can go, as compared to the teachings followed in PGDM.

Public administration is your optional hands down. The syllabus will not be the same as your academics (infact it wont be for 95% of test takers) but pub ad has a very strong management studies flavour. Your PGDM will help in understanding the subject more clearly & quickly than others. Many management concepts & popular theories will be there in paper 1 & it just feels like another management subject.

Most importantly, GS paper 2 of mains is mostly polity & that can be tackled easily with pub ad studies.
Let us not think much about mains at this stage. You can write optional paper only if you clear prelims first. So, start your SWOT & come up with a strategy

Hi FriendsI found this link somewhat helpful for history. http://www.gktoday.in/modern-history-freedom-struggle-of-india-for-upsc-examinations/I think it shows a brief summary of indian modern history. Happy preparation and all the best.
This link is good but those who are not familiar with UPSC questioning style should be wary. There are a lot of unnecessary concepts. Seen section A but most of it is not needed for civils prelims. Good for those who know what not to study
Thanks a lot @venkatesh561. Please try to keep up the good work & post any other useful links that you may come across. There is a lot of demand for these on my PMs.

Hi, if any body applied already or applying today, can you please tell whether option of choosing hyderabad center is there in online application. I just checked notification and found that delhi, hyderabad & chennai are not in list of exam centers for prelims.Are they asking anything about mains optional.Sorry for silly questions but i finished part 1 of appl today & cannot access part 2 till i pay challan in sbi.

There was a typing mistake in the notification & the first column got repeated. So, centers in 2nd column were missing. Everything alright. Just a typo.
Mains optional (in IFS) is only for UPSC estimating as to how many people prefer a particular subject & plan venues accordingly. It is just for an idea & the optional can be changed while filling mains application.

PS: This bloody mario-spider fellow is a good friend of mine & often logs onto pagalguy from my computer. So, some non-sense intended only for him:

With due respect, im new to the forum looking for guidance
Hi, welcome aboard. Most of us have just started studying for prelims 2013. Just go through a few of the previous pages & you are ready to hit the deck. Start with polity or modern history. Post a few tit bits that you feel are important for GS in prelims.

Attention all civils aspirants

LIC has come up with a recruitment advertisement for Asst Administrative Officers. The exam is scheduled 2 weeks before prelims. It is a very good practice for paper 2. Infact the best practice after SSC cgl. The post itself is not that bad either.

I hope you all applied for SSC CGLE. It is the best alternative/backup/preparation etc etc for civil services. Syllabus of tier 1 is similar to prelims but question paper pattern will be different. Even GS will be of civils level but straight & direct (in civils each question will have 4 or 5 different sub questions jumbled up). Please prepare well for it. A score of 130+/200 in tier 1 will make prelims easier to pass. These posts are second best in the country after civils. God forbade if any of us didn't make it into civils, the same posts can be attained upon promotion from SSC posts.
Those who haven't applied for SSC this year (last date over) are amongst the most unluckiest & stupidest (sorry but I have to say the truth) civils aspirants. Please don't forget to apply next year.
Attaching LIC notification. Prelims paper 2, here comes the second ladder to reach you.

Hi guys, Changes in Civil services exam kept on hold!!!!

Hi Bro, So the mains will be of same pattern as last year's? Prelims is same rite?
@venkatesh561

Prelims would remain the same; nothing can be said about mains pattern as of now!

Cheers!

Sure, I'll post the useful links here when ever i find it. Reading your previous threads i think you are from Hyderabad. Can you tell me when the notification for AP Public Service Commisison Group 1 notifcation will be released?

What are you inferring with the name "IFS" ? It has nothing to do with "forest" as you may be thinking, I guess! IFS - Indian Foreign Service and yes you can get into it if you are able to get an awesome total score! :)
@alok698
The candidate must hold a Bachelor창€™s degree with at least one of the subjects namely
Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics,
Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor창€™s degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in
Engineering
of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions.

it says people with degree in engg can apply,,,so you can apply

i think the IFS alok was referring to was indian forest service because for the indian foreign service guys are selected from Civils with what you said, i.e only with good scores,,
@anshul26 Yeah..he got confused with forest/bio 😃 Anyways, you have rightly informed him about all the things.
@anshul26 @ScareCrow28
I was referring to Forest service exam only as I m planning to apply for both CS n IFS...
