Tapmi Batch of 2010-2012

Hey has anyone who sent the 2nd DD (last date being 20th may) received an email confirmation from TAPMI regarding receipt of the DD ?? I haven't got mine yet and nobody is picking up calls at the office.. (Will try calling again later.. )

Me too didnt receive any confirmation via mail. I guess they will dispatch the mails after 20th May only after collecting all the DDs received till 20th.
Hi All,
I converted Tapmi this 11th May for PGDM course but i was bit confusioned to take any decision so i called one senior(passed out from Tapmi in year 2000) and on the basis of his feed back i finally decided not to go for it this year and to have one more encounter with Destiny in CAT10.So someone, who is still in the waiting list, is going to grab my PGDM seat.CONGRATS!!

can you please PM me the reason given to you by the senior to whom u talked.

I converted on 11th, I spoke to sudeep sir in the morning. He told receipts would be dispatched very soon. Don worry DD must have reached.

Hey guys,

Just called up admissions office. I was told that I am there within the next 15 nos in the wait list, and I am most likely to convert in the next wait list progression.

It was getting a lil too close to my neck as the days were passing. Relieved now
Looking forward to the confirmation.

Now its almost certain that I will be a part of Tapmi 2010-2012 batch

Actually i have 3 years of IT experience and dont want to be in IT anymore as i want to join some investment banking or marketing firm after my mba .Accd. to that senior frm tapmi, tapmi has gud recruitement and exposer for those who want to stick to ITfield since major recruiters are IT mnc's only and not for others as such.

Hi Abhishek,

With all due respect to the senior whom you had spoken to, I feel there are certain facts that need to be clarified:

1. First and foremost, its heartening to see that you are researching institutes at this level. Not too many people do this and therefore end up with assembly-line replies to "Why MBA?"

2. While it is a fact that we attract a sizeable number of offers from IT/ITeS MNC's, a closer look at our national recruitment figures will tell you it is the same across institutes and courses. This is one industry with a huge appetite and the country's demographic dividend feeds it richly enough.

3. I am a Civil engineer with 3 years of experience in Construction and with no intention of joining an IT company. I am in TAPMI because of two reasons: (a) It has quite a few non-IT recruiters and (b) It is dishing out the right kind of knowledge aided with a very effective pedagogy. IMHO, these matter more than who chose how many students last year. That is a dynamic statistic and rarely represents a trend.

4. Having worked for 3 years, I am sure you would have interacted with quite a few employees across various organizations at the middle/senior management level. In that case you would appreciate it hardly matters where you did your MBA from as much as what you did with your MBA knowledge to reach where you want to be.

5. As far as i-Banking and Marketing firms are concerned, we have TAPMIans occupying respected positions in both sectors and a whole lot many more. Being from TAPMI does not automatically guarantee you a seat in an IT/ITeS co, nor does it bar you from any non-IT organization.

6. Having some rudimentary knowledge of how the Placement process works at TAPMI, I can ask you to rest assured that there would be people dedicated at bringing the best names in the industry for the students to choose from.

7. As far as recruitment and exposure are concerned, whenever you do your MBA and wherever you do it from, always remember, the recruiter, at the end of the day, chooses you across the table and not your institute. So align your efforts in that direction from day 1 of your course.

Godspeed.

what is going to happen in 23 hrs.
i m also in waiting list
when i had called sudeep sir he told me that around 150 candidates are left

Any1 from mumbai going 2 join?

Another call made to Admissions....

Asked about my status....mine is a borderline case..in the sense...that with a bit of luck I would get in...now that luck thing is AICTE approval of 60 PGDM seats....

Regarding other specialisations, TAPMI still to take a call on it...most probabl;y these will be under Manipal University

Regarding PGDM 60 seats..."almost green signal" from AICTE...but again its the 28th of May that would decide the future for people in the balance....

Till date, around 200 have been given offers....

Dear apnaabhishek;
To add something more to what subhayu has already replied:
(1) 105 people out of 120 of our batch have some work experience. Most of them are from IT. But many of them will go for finance, marketing, HR by their choice. In fact many of them have same desire as you have that "they do not want to go back to IT" :).
(2) Even IT firms do not only recruit for pure IT (system) profiles. They also take people for finance, marketing, HR profiles.
(3) If you refer the recruiting partners for 2010, then (around) out of 56 recruiters only 8-9 are IT companies, rest all are from different domains.
(4) If you have a particular profile in mind, which you have, come to know is not possible to get from Tapmi, then it's a good decision to leave Tapmi and keep working on get into your desired college to get desired profile. But if you are leaving Tapmi only because you are afraid that after 2 years at time of placement you will have no option but to join an IT company, then I think you should rethink your decision. Because your fear is wrong.
(5)" i want to join some investment banking or marketing firm" : Tapmi is considered one of the best b schools for "marketing specialization" because of faculty, curriculum , companies visiting and profiles offered. "In the 17th Business School Affaire and Dewang Mehta Award ceremony, held at Mumbai on Nov. 5, 2009, TAPMI was adjudged as one of the best 5 business schools in the country (including IIMs) with the best marketing curriculum." Refer our website. I cannot claim same thing for i-banking but for marketing we are certainly among best.
(5) This post is no way to convince you to Join Tapmi. It's going to be entirely your decision. I wrote this because your are taking a decision which is based on a wrong inference.
Best of luck.

Taking a cue from Sumit's point (2), I find an opportunity to distribute some genral gyaan to some potential juniors:

In any organization, all departments are present, and each are important in their own way. Look at it this way - a consultant at KPMG (IT) is doing what? Is he in the IT industry? Or is he in the Financial Services domain?
If you were doing brand management for IBM, are you an IT guy or a cool brand-guru?
If you were coding for the next version of EA Sports' Soccer game, are you a cool gamer or are you a programmer?

The finance team of Larsen & Toubro Limited is bigger than some of the smaller banks in India. The marketing team at BMW works in tandem with the Product design team.

In any organization, there are no water-tight silos in which Marketing, Finance, Operations, HR, Systems work separately. The higher you go up the corporate ladder, there is a greater demand for cross-functional knowledge.

The reason I am saying all this is when we guys joined TAPMI, we came in with preconceived notions about what we shall specialize in and what subjects are going to shape our futures. Over a year of exposure to all the various portions (it would be unfair to call them branches - all of them are the stem) of Management, the lines that separated them have smudged a bit. It is my earnest request to all of you to look for quality education and a healthy learning environment before you look at the placement figures. The world is yet to figure out the way to stop a person from doing well at what he/she is passionate about doing.

Hi dude

Did Sudeep sir actually say "almost green signal from AICTE" for the remaining 60 seats???

I am also a borderline case as per my conversation with him a week ago. Would be glad if you can confirm this.

I cudnt resist posting this here.

I have been into this whole thing of joining a Bschool and related research for the past 2 years. And I have been following many threads in Pagalguy. But this thread is absolutely fantastic, in terms of the attention Seniors are giving to it. Hardly have I seen such comprehensive responses about the major worry points of an aspirant of a particular college.

Thanks a ton for all the seniors who are doing a magnificent job here.
