For any nation to progress some economic reforms are needed time to time. Economic development impact all other sectors and helps in over all development of a country. Such a need had come when the prime minister sri Narendra Modhi announced demonetization on 8 Nov 2016. The objectives were to contain inflation, to remove black money, to tackle counterfeit currency, to unearth black money, to break the funding to terrorist organisations and to shift to less cash economy. In our country 87% of all transaction was done through hard cash in which 84% was of the 500 and 1000 rupee notes. Taking this as advantage the people with malicious intent had developed parallel underworld financial system to fund the antinational activities it is also a reason for which hiigher value currency notes rs500 and rs 1000 had been declared to be no longer a legal tender. This demonitization had not been done for the first time but also done in 1946 when rs 1000 and rs 1000, rs 5000 and rs 10000 were removed from the financial system to counter corruption and to bring back the unaccounted money into the banking system. The objectives of the current move are Firstly, to remove black money from the financial system which goal has been met for maximum extent. Secondly to remove counterfeit currency which has been successfully done. Thirdly, to become less cash economy which has been done through BHIM and UPI applications. Fourthly, to counter terror activities in this also we have succeeded for certain extent. Lastly, to contain inflation in this we have not achieved much and this move had effected the inflation negatively . In short term it has not given much fruitful result but in the log run it is expected to impact economy in positive way. Please evaluate.
