You can tell the condition of a Nation by looking at the status of its women-Jawaharlal Nehru.
Women Empowerment refers to strengthening the social,economic and educational status of women,i.e an environment where there is no gender bias and they have equal rights in family,community,society and workplaces.
The status of women in a society is determined by the quality of participation by women in various nation-building activities.In this regard,India presents a unique paradox.while we have the distinction of having women at highest echelons of power,their status is still inferior,As a matter of fact,all women have not been lucky to enjoy the fruits of emancipation.which has been a cause of grave concern.
Skewed girl child sex ratio which is further aggravated by sex determination through modern diagnostic tool which helps in sex-selective abortion.Even after birth,a girl child has to face discrimination in terms of fulfilling her education,health,nutrition needs and child marriage etc.To tackle and create awareness about this menace Beti Bachao Beti Padhao,a social scheme was launched by the government,which aims at empowering girl child.
A separate ministry of women and child development along with National commission for Women was established as a watchdog to protect their rights,legally enactment of laws such as Succession Act,Anti-dowry Act,Equal Pay Requirements,reservation in legislative bodies etc are acting as empowering tools by providing them equal status.
Any country can not develop by leaving behind half of its population rather the role of the women half is even more important as Mahatma Gandhi has rightly pointed out-"If you educate a man,you educate only an individual,but if you educate a woman,you educate an entire family.”

Uniform Civil Code is a legislative vision of a diverse multicultural country like India, which is also sought for in the article 44 of directive principles of state policy in Indian Constitution, providing for an idealized view of governance in the country.
it refers to the system of having a single set of rules governing marriage,divorce,adoption,inheritance and acquisition.However,''Two rules, one nation'' is the phrase that aptly describes the way things generally unfold in the largest democracy of the world.India, where one religion allows a male to be a polygamist while the other proclaims it to be a criminal offense.
One of the biggest challenges for its implementation is defining a common set of rules acceptable by all. It is seen by many as encroachment in personal space and forcing the view of the majority on the minorities. A lot of misinformation & misplaced fear worsens the situation. This is a complex and sensitive issue due to the involvement of religion and sometimes it is given communal overtones.
So any honest attempt towards making UCC should be made only after taking into account, the views and apprehensions of community leaders of different religion and culture.and allaying their fear about domination of the laws of one religion in the final draft.
Change is the only constant. Reform in religious laws is needed to move towards a progressive & inclusive nation but it should be gradual and by addressing concerns of every religion.Thereby making India a secular country in the truest sense of terms.
