Ewaste or electronic waste has become one of the major pollution source around the globe . India being no exception in India alone 18.5 lakh tonnes of each year out of which only 5-10 percent is processed through formal cycle rest through informal process.
In India people due to poverty is processing ewaste manually without taking precuations .E waste has different types of harmful chemicals like lead.barium, mercury,bryllium etc. These chemicals can cause harmuful lungs disease ,cancer, skin disease etc.
The major sources of ewaste are private companies ,goverment and individuals .Goverment being the highest producer of ewaste.
Ther have been various issues due to which the ewaste is not getting processed like their less awarness about its harmful effects, companies are not taking proper responsiblity, proper treatment plants are not available in cities like pune,banglore,delhi etc. proper technology for processing is also not available
India have recently come out with ewaste management rules 2016 in which there will be the responsiblity of companies to collect and process ewaste. The will have to form collection and recycling centres and these centres will be registered with state goverments and central goverments
Even at international level convenations like Banako convention has put a ban on import of ewaste in Africa to protect human health and environment. The european union has formed waste electrical and electronic equipment rules regarding ewaste.
India has to look after the peoper implementation so that the rules are adhered to and ewaste doesnt cause destruction of environment and human life
