This thread caters to the experiences faced by applicants during Group Interviews 1 and 2 of SPJIMR Admissions Process for PGDM 2015-2017.

The general process is as follows

1) Registration

2) Biometric Test

3) Written Communication Test( Just to test the English proficiency of applicants, we do not expect Shakespearean English, just the basic would be tested)

2) Psychometric tests

3) GI-1

4) GI-2

Applicants may or may not share their profile.

Though guidelines for posting experiences is not recommended but Interview place and time should be mentioned.

Hi puys, though it might be late i am sharing my interview experience

Slot 13th Jan 11am

Reached there by 9 and they started verifying the certificates by 9.30am. Every instruction was written on a board and even if we had doubts the adcom were helpful. Around 10:15 we were called for WAT and psychometric test. We were given half n hour for that. And by 11 we were taken into a conference room . my batch consisted of total of six members 3 operations, 1 marketing and 2 finance (including me). The panel consisted of one faculty member (name: patnaik) one alumni in finance (nikil) and one journalist (couldn't get his name ) . they asked us to introduce ourselves and mention why this specialization . then they started a discussion on crude oil prices (one girl for finance was working for reliance in jamnagar) and then crossed different scenarios. I was asked about equity markets and I being dumb just told them that they are volatile. ( as I felt the question was very generic) and finally asked about why should we take you ( here also I was caught off guard as I was expecting why sp Jain and I couldn't open my mouth for around 5 secs ) and they moved on with this question to others.

Verdict : 1st round eliminated. one operation guy, two girls 1 finance and 1 marketing were through to the next round.

Advice: always speak up and don't be dumb like me and be HONEST and SMART.

What kind of WAT topics were given? Were they too subjective requiring a lot of stats and all? Or were they general topics asking you to take a stand and reason it?

People who have already given the interview...Could you please tell what are the documents required to be taken to the venue??

What questions were the Marketing people asked? And what were the essay topics like?

My interview exp :

Slot : 12 PM 27th Jan,Bangalore . Reached by 10:30. Be 1:30 hrs early

1) Documents check : A form to be filled for docs u r submitting : Photo Id, CAT/GMAT/XAT score card, X,XII, Grad, Work ex and top 5 achievements (U choose the best 5) - Originals will be checked and Self attested copy to be given.

2) Psychometric Test and WAT - 20 ques with 10 each in 2 groups. U have to select 3 ques from each group in Section 2 and give reasons why u choose them. WAT topic - "Ghosts are ppl without bodies.Agree or Disagree. Total time 30 mins.

3) GD 1 - 30-40 mins. Main focus on Why MBA? Why this specialisation?
If you have selected an option like Finance/Operations when u hav work ex in IT, be prepared for proving and convincing that u hav interest . As in read books, know terms and also prepare to face the panel who r in mindset to screw u for choosing out of ur current line of work,

4) GD2 -40-45 mins. Stress interview. Counter questions, Read about current issues like Is Death Sentence is justifiable,Shootout at Paris, Italian Marine fishermen killing, TCS layoff etc. Questions reg section 2 statements selections.

5) 70 psychometric questions test - TIme given 20 mins. was over in 10 mins.

Over all a very good experience. Those who clear GD1 got a SP jain pen drive  :)

Slot : 12 PM 29th Jan,Bangalore
Finance (5months work-ex)
1) Documents collection :: Photo Id, CAT/GMAT/XAT score card, X,XII, Grad, Work ex and top 5 achievements(original certificates only for achievements) - Originals will be checked and Self attested copy to be given.

2) Psychometric Test and WAT - 20 ques with 10 each in 2 groups. U have to select 3 ques from each group in Section 2 and give reasons why u choose them. WAT topic - "Artistic expression should be censored. Discuss"

3) GD 1 - 40-50 mins. (2 Marketing (1 workex ) 3 finance (1 Wex) 1 IM)
Started with the basic questions Tell something about yourself with main focus on Why MBA? Why this specialization? Pretty much well-rehearsed answered. Quite some cross questioning.
For Finance/Marketing fresher's questions about what more have you done, any readings, courses, projects, something related to finance/Marketing you have read, you know anything?
Define Marketing? Examples? And few more questions based on answers
For work-ex, how does it relate to finance, work related questions. Cross questions until they were satisfied it was actually relevant work-ex
Then some general questions on Finance, explain Stock Markets? What are primary secondary markets? Their dependencies on each other? Define discounting? Give formula? What is BSE Sensex? What was its' index y'day? What are its' trends? Why is it growing, reasons, counter questions. Any readings in finance. Difference between economics and finance?
Why should we select you over a CA/CFA person with a background in finance? More questions related to answers and few cross questioning.
Have you read about SPJain? Visited website? What all did you find there? Interesting things?
Which are all the courses offered (mentioned in the site as well as brochure distributed before interviews)? Have you seen the brochure? What are the courses in your specialization offered? Electives that interests you from those mentioned?

Round 1 ends. To everybody's surprise, 5/6 through to round 2. IM guy eliminated.
4) GD2 -45 mins.
Personality interview. Basic questions about Discipline, veg non-veg and your views on it.
For marketing ppl, qualities looking for in a candidate, name some famous marketing manager, his qualities, etc etc
For finance, again Y finance, and not the same answer as GI 1. Dream company, job profile offered and details.
Some more discussions about SPJain, about college rules and your views. Basically they want to know about your views and consistency in them. Chilled out overall.

5) 70 psychometric questions test - TIme given 20 mins. was over in 10 mins. Just like Briggs Myer test.

Over all a very good experience and to add a 4GB SPJ pen drive.

@Admins: Is the Second Shortlist out? My profie says 'Thank you for your interest in SP Jain, Final List will be out in March'. However, the site says 'TBA' in front of the Second Shortlist Date.

Kindly clarify whether the list through XAT is out or not.

Does anyone have any idea about the XAT cut off for SP Jain interview call?

Hi Puys, Is it mandatory to produce the proof of all the top 5 achievements. I have mentioned a few achievements (such as handling multiple projects at work in a short duration of time) for which there is no written proof. Please advise. Also, which top 5 achievements are they referring to. Is it the 5 points on distinctiveness we wrote in the personal profile section, or is it something else? Thanks in advance.

I haven't received any mail regarding the cut-off list of S.P.Jain. Could someone help me on this?

I have selected Mumbai as my interview city but what is the exact venue for the interview?Is it going to be held at the college itself?
