Hi puys,

Thanks to Satwik to have opened up a thread for the May 09 intake. With the opening date around the corner (Oct 27th), it was needed.

I am Frank (of course that's my nickname ). I am a PMM admit for the SPJCM GMBA program. Initially applied in the Dec 08 intake, and have now deferred my admit to the May 09 intake.

Aptitude Test: SPJAT Aug 17th 2008
Evaluation GD/PI: 27th Sept 08

I'll be glad too to help all my fellow puys with regards the GMBA details to the best I can. Maybe a few more of our admitted friends can join in and help with their experiences too.

@ Satwik, @ Frank,
Glad you guys opened the thread! Was needed...
I will be applying to SPJ's May intake...have over 2 years of experience ( will be 3 by the time i join a b school) in an IT firm in the Talent Mgmt sphere..and my profile has been anything but 'boxed' in this two year period...i have been involded in trng delivery , content dvpt , designing a leadership dvpt program on one hand..and beign involved in sales training on the other , account based marketing , even RFP repsonses , i have even dabbled in comceptualizaing/branding and implementation of some of the org. strategic talent dvdpt initiatives...
I am not too clear on the specialization that i want to apply for...considering that my job hasnt straightjacketed me into any one sphere...will it be justifiable to choose lets say SMM over HRM?? I have zeroed in on these two ..but cannot choose one over the other..
about my background -
Xth - 87.6% XIIth - 87.5%
Bachelors - (Hons) Economics from DU - 57%
ECA - Not exceptional but i do have stuff to show
Fair amount of community work
Have been doing well at work..
Questions -
1. Your two cents on my choice of specialization with regards to whether it will be justifiable in the interviews - are these guys very particular about having relevant experience in the chosen stream of specialization ????
2. Your two cents on the profile.

Hi Whetstone,

Welcome!! And first of all good luck on the SPJCM prep.
Now to your q's.

1. Specialization: It sounds that SMM could be choice 1 for you. HRM could be 2nd if SPJ allows two specializations to be mentioned in the form this time too. As much as past experience contributes to the specialization, don;t you think that your future expectation contribute more? If you can reason out clearly as to why the specialization helps you in your future positions, it seems good enough for you take it up. This helps especially for the PI. It is always better to be clear on the reason of the specialization. Think over it!!

2. Profile: I must say that your profile seems well rounded, if you get what I mean. As much as anyone would feel that it's not concentrated , I personally feel good about such profiles. It gives you a good and more detailed experience of the various facets of the industry. This is good especially when you are in the initial years of your work experience. SPJCM I believe looks around for candidates who can contribute to their class from their vast experiences. This I think you should be able to do. You havent mentioned much about ECA, so can't comment on that. I hope you mention about them, because that makes a diff in your application. So should the community work experience. I suggest that you elaborate on it enough in your application. Remember that SP Jain has a special corner/responsibility for social community work. They feel a lot about this area and hence give a lot of importance to this in your profile. :-)

3. On GMAT score: I agree that they are low. Although it is in SPJ's practice to give out evaluation calls based on profile, they still would be using your entrance test scores to decide amongst the best of the lot to be called for the GD/PI. Moreso the SPJCM website mentions that it is very rare to consider a GMAT score below 650, in which case your score just meets that criteria. I suggest that you take another test as well. Try the SPJAT. It is relatively simpler, although the competition is tough never the less.

3. I took GMAT in Sept..and scored a not-so -great650 ( M 49; V30) .Am skeptical about applying with this score . Should i take some other evaluation test ? Or should i go ahead n apply nonetheless...

Hi Everybody,

For the benefit of all, I'm attaching the collection of Evaluation Round experiences I collected, from various threads, during my preparation.

Since applications are reviewed on a rolling basis...is there any such thing as the later you apply , the harder it gets ???
Coz my options for the evaluation test are - CAT,GMAT, SPJAT ( in that order of preference). If CAT doesnt work out..it'll take GMAT..and that will not be anytime before Dec.

@Whetstone

Well, in a sense ya. But only if you skip deadlines for the individual rounds. This is because seats get filled up after each evaluation round. It does get more tough, in the sense your chance of being admitted reduces simply because a certain number of seats have been taken up. But within a round, I don't think a later application would make a big diff. Of course, you will need to take up your scores before the round deadline is up. Normally they are the end of each month, though don't take my word for it cos they don't get released officially. You can only guesstimate from their SPJAT dates.

In any case taking the SPJAT wouldnt be such a bad idea. You'll need to get a competitive score above 90%tile to have a good chance. I got a dot 90 %tile . Btw, are you gonna book you gmat date after you take the cat. cos I feel the time bracket would be a bit narrow then, not to mention the unavailability of dates.

Good Luck and ATB!!

Hi all,

This is Ramesh aka Dreams are real...got GHRM offer for Dec 08, deferred to Apr09. Deferment has been accepted.. called uo Dubai office yesterday and talked to Ms.Rose.. She said that my deferment request has been accepted and they have sent the letter to me in hard copy.. Wanted me to sign it and send it to India Liason office...
Now have to start the process of relieving myself from the current responsibilities at work and also contact banks in India for the student loans...

Regards,
Ramesh M

@ Ramesh

Do you think we ought to go about our student loans right now??? In any case we'v got to apply for an amount excluding the USD 5000 that is already paid or sooner would be? And we aren't aware of the remaining amount.

My take would be to wait until further info is released about the fees for the next intake. Wat say??
