That's the distance covered by the escalator. Assume ram Shyam speed 2 and 1 resp. So ram takes 15 sec to cover 30 steps, elevator covers 15u steps in that time. Similarly for Shyam. Then equate the two distances.
@wovfactorAPS Yah... printing mistake.. If sameer is also moving down, then meeting time = (60/5) = 12 secs => 12*4 = 48 steps damn it is also there in the options.. Not fair .. First time my delusional approach to a question helped me get the right answer π ! :mg:
two whites are interchangeable kuch samajh nhi aaya...baaki toh thk hain...par it doesn't specify that u have to choose black first...??
Matlab double counting ho raha hai if you're not dividing by 2 kyu ki the order in which you select the white squares does not matter. Specified nai hai but it's better to start with b. wwb wala case mai locha hota hai. Multiple cases aate hai.
There were two escalators (moving stairways) in a mall, with the same number of steps, the first one moving up and the second moving down at the same speed. Ram and Sameer walk up the first escalator at their respective uniform speeds. Ram took 2 steps in the time that Sameer took one. Ram and Sameer reached the top of the escalator after taking 30 steps and 20 steps respectively. Ram then started to walk down the second escalator. At the same time, Tarun started to walk up the second escalator at twice Ram's speed. How many steps would Tarun take before meeting Sameer?
a) 20
b) 24
c) 40
d) 48Please iska solution explain kr do detail me... OA is 40..

Meets at a distance of 24 steps but his actual speed is 4 and not 2 , so he has travelled 48 steps on the process, the elevator has pushed him down by 24 steps, so left with net 24 steps again.

Messed up the relative speed values, but you get the gist
(60)/(4 +1) = 12 secs to meet .. The speed of escalator will not play part in relative speed
Tarun moves = 12*(Tarun's speed) = 48 steps π
By that time, escalator throws out = 2*12 = 24 steps
-> With respect to escalator, he moved a resultant of 24 steps, but Tarun stepped on 48 steps, so he moved 48 steps, not his fault that the escalator pulled him down by 24 steps..
