None of followed by plurall noun takes a plural verb. This rule is given in Gmat Manhattan book. So, 'us' is plural and should take 'are' instead of 'is'.

None of us will be followed by a singular noun. The usage of singular/Plural noun after none depends upon the context. (None of us= Not even a single person among us)

Remember this rule-

SANAM pronouns can be singular/plural,depending on the usage.

S-Some
A-Any
N-None
A-All
M-Most

SANAM is pretty common in GMAT world you see :mg:

zealouszestful
it should be a
as pronouns "some, any ,none, all, most" take verbs according to word attached

As I far as I know none of+non-countable noun is followed by singular verb
eg:None of the work was done.
source: Oxford
and none of +countable plural noun is followed by plural verb
eg:None of these words are now currently used.
source:wren and martin
and if we talk about none only then it can take both singular and plural verb depending on the context
eg: Did you buy any mangoes?
There were none in the market.

Have you brought me a letter?
There was none for you.
source:wren and martin.

It all depends upon the context.
Just look at this eg:
None of these women is my wife.
None of these women are from India.
