My interview experience :
Date : Oct.13, 2015
Place : RBI Regional HO, Bhopal
Panel-I --> 2 Ladies and 2 Gentlemen in the panel, seated as :
M2 M1(Panel head) F1 F2
Me: May I come in?
All: Yes come in
Me: Good evening ma'ams, good evening sirs
All: Good evening, please be seated
Me: Thank you
M1: You actually look quite young, when I saw your photo, I thought it must be an old one
Me: 😃
M1: So, you like quizzes (from bio-data: various quiz competition wins mentioned)
Me: yes sir
M1: Tell me where is the "Sea of Tranquility"?
Me: *after thinking a while* sir, mind?
M1: You did a school project on Lunar Eclipse, right? Where does this happen?
Me: Sir, Moon
M1: Right, that's what is called the "Sea of Tranquility" Okay, so you're a Mechanical Engineering grad. why are you looking for a job in a bank?
Me: *Blah Blah Blah* - usual banking bakar
M1: Why do you think so many engineers these days apply for such profiles? Banking was on the rise even in 2009 when you decided to go for your degree.
Me: Yes sir, it was, but the Automobile sector, even the engineering sector as a whole has been going through a tough time hence creating little opportunities for fresh grads, and coupled with these effects, I believe they choose to enter this field.
M1: What do you think about this slowdown, it will surely turn around someday, will you go back then?
Me: Sir, can't say about the Engg. sector, but banking will surely be on the rise in the coming years as still large sections of the population still don't have access to financial services, so I'd stay.
F1: What does RBI do?
Me: Ma'am RBI is responsible for managing the flow of currency in the country, it is the banker to the government, controls monetary policy, looks after the banks so that they work properly
F1: something about notes?
Me: yes ma'am also prints the currency
M1: RBI prints the currency on the governments behalf or on behalf of itself?
Me: Sir, RBI has four print presses where it prints the currency, the amount to be printed is decided by mutual consultation with the government.
M1: But on whose behalf?
Me: Sir the legal tenders are signed by the governer himself but I'm not sure on whose behalf it is printed. (I fumbled quite a bit on this question, quite a few --aan--this--aan--thats, also while answering I stupidly did not make proper eye contact, was lookin down while thinking -- number yahi par katenge 😞 )
M1: Okay
F2: Tell me 3 apples that changed the world.
Me: okay *after thinking for a while* Ma'am the first one would be the one that fell on Newton, the second one that was created by Steve jobs and *pause* the third would be the natural one that keeps the doctor away 😁 😛 (everyone in the room bursts into laughter and even I was laughing shamelessly 😁 )
F2: Recently the pre-2005 notes were asked to be withdrawn, why?
Me: Security issues, new notes are better with the security aspect and make counterfeiting difficult
F2: Today if you have a pre-2005 note, is it still a legal tender?
Me: yes ma'am, it is. The deadline for exchanging these notes with newer ones is 31st of December this year.
F2: Okay, so can you tell me the new security features that have been added recently, it was in news just about a few weeks ago?
Me: Sorry ma'am, don't know
M2: Can you tell me how do banks make profits?
Me: Explained with a nice example (he asked me to stop ater listening 2-3 points, looked satisfied)
M1: Okay then, you may leave now.
Me: Thank you everyone.
Duration was about 10 minutes.
