Program is damn costly 😞

Program is damn costly 😞

The tuition fee works out to CDN 72,000.. so i guess including living expenses for 1 year it should be about INR 40-42 lakhs...

I think Schulich, even though it is a 2 year program, works out to about that much...

Both Ivey and Queen's are expensive...

But most of the big consulting firms (McKinsey, Bain, Booze etc.) recruit only from Ivey, Rotman and Queen's.....

Where all are you applying?

Some stats gathered from the MBA 2011 Resume Book.....

Profile of class of 2011

  1. Class size - 119
  2. Average age - 28 years
  3. Average years of work ex - 5 years
  4. Average GMAT score - 651
  5. No. of countries represented - 19 (excluding India and Canada)
  6. % of International students - 42% (50 students)
  7. No. of resumes given in the RESUME BOOK - 111
  8. Approx. no. of Indians in the RESUME BOOK (including NRIs and PIOs) - 36

Hi Lezra

Though I considered queens...but by eventual funeling it has moved out of my list coz
1) its costly, salaries bieng offered in canada might make the ROI difficult, trust not much of the people can move to us for work post mba.

2) Queens isnt known much in india so returninn directly to india and then working is futhur difficult..both in terms of ROI and job search.. here schulich might have an advantage as now it will be known coz of its India MBA.

Please enlighten on this thx!!

Well i agree that rotman, queens & ivey are the best. But they all are damn constly for me. i will not be able to fund by any chance unless any of these give me max scholarship(30K:p)

I have applied for pre assessment to Ivey. they kinda sort of interested in my profile. they have asked me to talk to call them and discuss. but seeing the fees of ivey and queens i have dropped the idea. i will go for some low cost colleges. texas mays or smeal or tippe or carrey or i have to decide. i can take max loan of 15 lacs and 10 lacs personal savings. thats all. so no chance for me for good colleges which are damn costly and dont provide loans without co signer. i can get admission in some good colleges because i think i have a diverisfied profile- Deloitte consulting-India-climate change advisory services(4years till i join). gmat yet to be given.
but i will probably go for not so expensive colleges becuase of money

Any current students on PG?

According to this article Queen's expected to receive 3700 applications for the one-year program's 75 spots in 2009

Taking the MBA plunge - thestar.com

Hey kamal2011...

I'm in the process of preparing my application and I'm targeting R1.... It'll be great if you can answer the following questions....

- What is the difference between team work at Queen's and group work at other business schools? What is unique about the team work aspect of the program?

- Do the tuition fees mentioned on the website ($75,000) include cost for books, Fit to Lead program etc.?

- Are placement statistics for 2010 and 2011 available? If so, what percentage of international students were placed?

- Does the program have rolling admissions? I'm targeting the R1 deadline (30th Sept 2011). So If i apply in the beginning of September, will QSB conduct interviews and announce results before 30th Sept, the official deadline?

- I understand that the program used to be known as Queen's MBA for Science and Technology. After being rechristened as the Full Time MBA have they made changes to the program to ensure that it is not too tech / science oriented? I'm from a non-technical background and I just want to know whether I will be at a disadvantage.

Thank you....

Hi,

Thanks a lot for volunteering to help!!!!

I have some questions, can you please address them:

My college gives transcript in a seal package that need to be send to univ by the student himself... the college administration doesn't send it..... but as per the requirement of the queen's application the college registrar needs to send the transcript... So is it fine if I send the sealed envelope to the univ?

Along with the transcript do we need to send the photo stats of the certificate that showcase our extracurricular achievements??

Thanks a lot...

Due to the intense nature of the program, you should expect some delay in the response. However, if you wish to speak to me, please send me a PM and I will share my contact details. Please see my comments inline.

Hey kamal2011...

I'm in the process of preparing my application and I'm targeting R1.... It'll be great if you can answer the following questions....

- What is the difference between team work at Queen's and group work at other business schools? What is unique about the team work aspect of the program?
-The team is for the core part of the program, for the first 8 months and doesn't change in every other course / module. A dedicated team coach is available at anytime to help in any aspect of the team work. Dedicated team room with all amenities required. Atmost care is taken in making the teams as diverse as possible. I can talk more about these aspects over the phone if you need more specific information.

- Do the tuition fees mentioned on the website ($75,000) include cost for books, Fit to Lead program etc.?
-everything is included in the tuition fee. you don't have to worry about anything other than your living cost.

- Are placement statistics for 2010 and 2011 available? If so, what percentage of international students were placed?
- you can send the mail to the Business Career Center to get the exact information. For the Class of 2011, more than 90% of the students who were looking for jobs have been placed as of now. But this is an unoffcial number.

- Does the program have rolling admissions? I'm targeting the R1 deadline (30th Sept 2011). So If i apply in the beginning of September, will QSB conduct interviews and announce results before 30th Sept, the official deadline?
- Yes. But MBA Office will not wait for 30th Sept. They start reviewing the application as soon as they receive it. You can expect to hear from them anytime within 1-3 weeks for an interview and another 1-2 weeks for final decision. Normally F2F interviews are recommended over skype/ telephonic interviews. So I would recommend you to wait till the Admissions Office representatives visit India, which they should do sometime in 3rd-4th week of Sept.

- I understand that the program used to be known as Queen's MBA for Science and Technology. After being rechristened as the Full Time MBA have they made changes to the program to ensure that it is not too tech / science oriented? I'm from a non-technical background and I just want to know whether I will be at a disadvantage.
- don't worry from that point of view. The format of the program has completely changed and we have a very diverse class. You can go through the resumes of the current students,
Queen's School of Business - Student Resumes - Queen's Full-time MBA Resumes Class of 2012

Thank you....

In case you guys need any inputs for your essays, send me a PM. We have a week long break here from 13th to 20th August and I would be able to spend some time helping you in your essays / interview prep.

You can send the sealed envelop to the School by yourself. Last year I did the same. However, you can send a mail to either Ruth ([email protected]) or Juanita ([email protected]) to reconfirm the same(or for any admissions related query).
