Q) The marks scored by a student in three subjects are in the ratio of 4 : 5 : 6. If the candidate scored an overall aggregate of 60% of the sum of the maximum marks and the maximum marks in all three subjects is the same, in how many subjects did he score more than 60%?

ans is he scored more than 60 % in one subject only.

let the marks be 4x, 5x, 6x
let maximum marks be 100 in each
now average is (4x+5x+6x)/3=60
=>x=12
so the marks are 48, 60, 72. Only one subject has more than 60
how to solve this?
Two guns are fired from the same place at an interval of 10.5 mins but a person in the shatabdi express approaching the place hears the second shot 10mins after the first. the speed of the shatabdi express in kmph if the speed of sound is 330m/s is?
a)59.6kmph b)45.1kmph c)120.35kmph d)none of these e)cannot be determined

lets assume bullets travel at the speed of sound
so distance between bullets is 330x630m (speed x time)
now man in shatabdi has to travel this distance in 10mins or 600sec
so 330x630/600 = 330+x (let x be speed of shatabdi)
x = 16.5m/s or 59.4kmph

now i understand... Thank you!!

q) A,B,C together earn Rs. 1,450 and spend 60%,65%and 70% of their salaries respectively. If their savings are in the ratio 14:21:15. find salary of B. (Ans is Rs. 600). Thanks in Advance : )

@ramirez let salaries be a,b,c

40/100 *a =14x => a=35x
35/100*b=21x => b=60x
30/100 *c = 15x => c=50x

a+b+c=1450 => x=10
So salary of b =600

Q) A shopkeeper marks his goods at 40% above the cost price. He is able to sell 3/4th of his goods at this price and the remaining at 40% discount. Assuming that he is able to sell all the goods he buys. find his loss or gain % on the whole transaction. Thanks in Advance : )
(Ans is 26% gain).

let there are 4 items n cp of each is 100
he sold 3 for 140 each => 120 profit
now he gave 40% discount on 140 => sp of fourth item is 84 =>16 loss
total profit is 120-16=104
profit %= 104/400 = .26 or 26%

@ramirez
Let there be 4 chickens the shopkeeper bought for $100 each and he decides to sell them at $140(40%more) each. But later he reliazes that one of the chicken is sporting a lean look and might not fetch more meat so keeping in mind the goodwill of his shop he drops the price of this Mr.lean to $84(40% less than $140). At end of the day he is able to sell all the 4 chicks.So at night he sits to enter his overall sellings and buyings in his diary.
Total money spent = $100*4 = $400
Total money came back = $140*3 + $84= $504
Net profit earned, he can enjoy with = $104 on $400
Or, divide by 4 , $26 on $100 ie 26% profit.
Not a bad bay it seems , eh?

Thanks @sonic_boom, Thanks @Psychamour : )

What will be the remainder when
(2^2+22^2+222^2+2222^2+.....................+22.....(2upto 49 times) )
is divided by 9?

@hm382

Rem(22^2/9) = Rem(22*22/9) = Rem(4*4/9) = Rem(4^2/9)

Similarly,
R(222^2/9) = R(222*222/9) = R(6*6/9) = R (6^2/9)
and R(2222^2/9) becomes R(8
^2/9), R(22222^2/9) becomes R(10^2/9) and so on upto R(222..(49times)^2/9) becomes R(98^2/9)

So the qn is now reduced to

R ( (2^2 + 4^2 + 6^2 +.......+ 98^2)/9 )
= R( 4(1^2+2^2+......+49^2)/9 )
= R( (4*40425)/9 )

= R (24/9) = 6

Rem(2^2/9)=2^2/9
Rem(22^2/9)=4^2/9
Similarly
6^2/9
8^2/9
1^2/9

Rem(222222^2/9)=3^2/9
Rem(2222222^2/9)=5^2/9
Similarly
7^2/9
0^2/9

So it becomes ((2^2+4^2+6^2+8^2+1^2+3^2+5^2+7^2+0^2)*5times + 2^2+4^2+6^2+8^2)/9
Sum of square of first 8 natural number = 204
so (204*5 + 120)/9
1140/9 = 6 Rem
