dude, either the question is incomplete or it has to be solved through options.

The ratio of monthly income of A and B is 3:4.the ratio of monthly expenditure of A and B is 4:5 . Wat should be the ratio of saving of A and B..Pls help me with the methods
If the Incomes are 30,40 and Expenditures are 4,5: The ratio of savings is 26:35
If the Incomes are 15,20 and Expenditures are 4,5: The savings ratio is 11:15

And here I have taken just two examples. There will be different ratio for different combinations .... The answer to this question is Cannot be Determined. If anything else is given, it's wrong

Why u have taken incomes to be 30,40??

because the ratio of income is 3:4, so incomes can be anything in ratio 3:4, e.g. 30,40 or 300,400 or 15,20.

Q from averages: pg 117

Certain no of trucks required to carry 60 tons of steel. It was found that since each truck carries 0.5 tons of cargo less, 4 more trucks were needed. How many trucks were initially planned to use?

A. 10 B. 15 C. 20 D. 25

@Tina_angel : Use options :

10 - 6Kg/Truck - 5.5 kg/T - X
15 - 4Kg/T - 3.5Kg/T - X
20 - 3Kg/T - 2.5 Kg/T = 50, remaining 10 = 4*2.5

Ans. [C]

Standard approach
let x be number of trucks n y be weight per truck
xy=60 and (x+4)(y-0.5)=60
solving this will get x=20

or solve thru options, it will be faster.
@sonic_boom thx,
i ws calculating hw many tons would the trucks be carrying less...by multiplying 0.5 * no of trucks... got stuck there

it happens

There were 42 students in hostel. Due to admission of 13 more, expenses of mess increased by rs 31 per day, while avg expenditure per head reduced by rs 3. What was the original expenditure of mess?

@Tina_angel my approach

Let a be the average for 42 students.
Now the Total cost = 42a.....&...13 new kids join ,hence total cost now = 42a + 31.
Average expense for 55 students = a - 3.
=> Total exp= 55(a - 3).
=> 42a + 31 = 55 (a- 3).
=> a = 196/13
So, original expense
=42*196/13
= 633.23

OA-633.3
@Tina_angel : arnd 633.3, what are the options ?

[E/42] - 3 = [E+31]/55 --> E - Expenses/day.
@shanu18 right.. dont kno y didnt this strike to me lol. thx!
