There were 42 students in hostel. Due to admission of 13 more, expenses of mess increased by rs 31 per day, while avg expenditure per head reduced by rs 3. What was the original expenditure of mess?
Let a be the average for 42 students. Now the Total cost = 42a.....&...13 new kids join ,hence total cost now = 42a + 31. Average expense for 55 students = a - 3. => Total exp= 55(a - 3). => 42a + 31 = 55 (a- 3). => a = 196/13 So, original expense =42*196/13 = 633.23
