172
please explain::
two thousand people lived in business village of which 55% were males n rest female.the male population earned a profit of 5% and female population earned8% on an investment of Rs 50 each. find the change in the percentage profit of the village if the ratio of male to female gets reversed the next year, population remaining the same.
(a)drop of 0.3
(b)increase of 0.3
(c)increase of 0.45
(d) drop of 0.45

Option (c)

if roots of the equation ax2 + bx + c = 0 lie in (0,3) then a lies in what interval ?

Chapter -10, Time speed and Distance, LOD-1, Q. 55

At a game of billiards, A can give B 15 points in 60 and A can give C 20 in 60. How many points can B give C in a game of 90.

(a) 11
(b) 13
(c) 10
(d) 14

I didn't understand the solution given in the book..! Please help!

for a given set of a,b,c the variable x will attain atmost 2 values and as there are three variables, one may not comment on the values of either of a,b or c.

Are you sure no other data was provided?
@heycat1012 said: if roots of the equation ax2 + bx + c = 0 lie in (0,3) then a lies in what interval ?
Since the roots lie in (0,3), sum of the roots >0, and product of the roots >0

=> b/a 0

Also, -b/2a > 0 and

Also, f(0)*f(3) >0 , f(0)*f(-b/2a)

But all I can get with this is a belongs to (-inf, min(0,(-c-3b)/9) U (max(0,-b/6,(-c-3b)/9), inf)

:-S !!

What is the solution ?

@[592846:YouMadFellow] according to me a sud lie betwwn 0 to c/9.

as product of roots = c/a

max(product of roots) = 9

min(prod of roots) = 0

a = c/ product of roots.

so a sud be between o to c/9

@[595321:heycat1012] according to me a sud lie betwwn 0 to c/9.

as product of roots = c/a

max(product of roots) = 9

min(prod of roots) = 0

a = c/ product of roots.

so a sud be between o to c/9

@[591226:jainakshay92] ans sud be 0. as 35 is multiple of 7 so any number multiplied by 35 will also be divisible by 7..

thnx guys for the help

@@[574519:x2maverickc] .. the ques is complete no other information is provided

and the options are :

(1,3)

(-1,-3)

(-11/91,-(8)^1/2)

(-1,3)

just in case, if options could help.

or may there is some discrepency with the question itself

@ashishkumarec01 thnx for the explanation but then shouldn't it be (c/9, inf)..??

@@[592846:YouMadFellow] there is no solution provided for this ques. and the answer is (1,3)

there is one more Please help me out!
Value of the expression (x^2-x+1)/(x-1) cannot lie between :
1,3
-1,-3
1,-3
-1,2
-1,3

@heycat1012 said: there is one more Please help me out! Value of the expression (x^2-x+1)/(x-1) cannot lie between : 1,3 -1,-3 1,-3 -1,2 -1,3
I just tried out a few values of x (0, 2, 3/2 etc) and kept on eliminating options

Is it -1,2 ?

@[592846:YouMadFellow] : sorry there was another option mentioned on the next page as "None Of these" which I skipped and "None of these" is the answer.
and also there is no solution provided for this question, so I don't knw the answer.

Well, this time I solved it. But I am still getting the answer as -1,3

Even the graph states that.. check this out.. -> http://graph-plotter.cours-de-math.eu/

@[592846:YouMadFellow] .. can you please suggest the solution

@yashasvi5 said: answer is 172??
which is the least number that must b subtracted from 1856 so that remainder when divided by 7,12,16 will same remainder four. pls do rply me with the answers

How you get there?

IMO it should be 6
@heycat1012 said: @YouMadFellow .. can you please suggest the solution
Well, what is did is, I differentiated f(x), and then found out that there is a local maxima at
x = 0 (where f(x) = -1), and local minima at x = 2 (where f(x) = 3)

So, this means that for x 1 , the minimum value of f(x) is 3.. So it cannot be anything between -1 and 3.
